Only if there’s 3-5vdc available at the mic input of the recorder. Try it and see. One thing is for certain, there’s no 48v phantom available there.

Found your problem. The external input is for a microphone only not for a line level signal. You could always add a 40-50db pad to your mixers line out connection or if you can, set the mixer for mic level out.
The problem is the “line in” designation on the recorder leading one to think it’s a line level input. I gueess that’s why they have a picture of a mic next to the input connector. In cases like this it’s always a good idea to RTFM.

What mixer are you using, does it have a built in tone generator? The normal way to calibrate the mixer/recorder would be to send a “0” level tone from the mixer to the recorder and set the recorder input level to -20dbfs.
From what you say it almost sounds like your recorder is set for mic level input. Is there some switch or menu setting that changes the input from mic to line?

If you have the G2/3 EW 112 then you get the ME2 omni. If you get the EW 122 then you get the ME4 cardioid. It’s a wide cardioid and sounds a lot better than the omni. In fact I prefer it over the B3.

You’re most likely correct about the H4 input not handling peak levels very well. The only thing I could suggest is to try to keep the H4 levels below -5dbfs. I would assume you’re using a -20dbfs reference level on the H4. BTW The TA3 output connections follow the settings of the XLR outputs. I have a Fostex FR2LE recorder and feed it line level from my 442 with no problems using the reference settings as above.

I’m sure that “they” saw and heard the shots at the shoot. The track you have was mixed and approved by “them”. That you don’t think it fits with the images is not important. You can ask of course but be prepared for a NO.

There are much more cost effective and better sounding lavs than the Sony’s. Check out the Countryman line at https://www.countryman.com. Look for the EMW lav there.
