A 3.5 mm TRS in & out connection where the output goes to the male RCA from either the tip or ring and the input to the 3.5mm comes from the female RCA via the tip or ring?

If when you set up the same gear at home and you couldn’t induce the same issues by jiggling cables, etc then I would blame your problems on the specific location. It could have been motion sensors, rf from other equipment or just the location of the room in the building.
A frequency scan would have shown you a clear path if you had time to do it. Of course keep your eye on your gear but I would chalk it up to a one time event. FWIW, we’ve all been there and done that, welcome to the club.

Technically speaking it’s a very good track. As far as any processing beyond what you’ve done, it depends on who is reading the script.
Nothing personal…but…If it’s you that’s going to be reading then you need to practice not being quite so nasal sounding. You can lower the timbre of your voice by standing when you’re reading. Sitting constricts your diaphragm and makes you sound nasal. Get a music stand, put a piece of carpeting on the stand and put the copy on it. Wearing headphones so you can hear what you sound like can help a lot.

Channels are paths, tracks are what you record to. You can have a 4 channel recorder with only two tracks to record to. A 4 track recorder allows you to put each of four spoken parts on it’s own track so you can mix it later in post. You can also use 1 track as a mix and have 3 iso’s or isolated parts for a remix later.

Your problem is not the headphones, it’s the headphone amplifier in the camera. Most are notoriously weak in output level. Try a pair of ear buds and see if that helps. You might also look for headphones with an inline battery powered amplifier.

To a degree you’re correct. A given amount of power will create “X” spl in “Y” speaker/hp’s before the amplifier goes into clipping and overloading the drivers and creating distortion. At too high an SPL and you can’t distinguish seperate sounds and you put your hearing in serious jepordy. Less is more.

There are many non tc recorders that will do the job just fine. Look at the Marantz line, Zoom H4, Sony and other under $500 recorders.

A Sound Devices Mix Pre would be a good starting 2 channel mixer to connect to your camera.

There are two channels so two inputs either mic level via the xlr inputs or line via the 1/4″ in the center of the xlr connector. For one channel feed, one cable. If you need help making the connector cable let me know & I’ll email a diagram. Contact: audioetc@bellsouth.net.
