We are indie filmmakers who are attempting to upgrade our sound quality for our next project. We have been looking into audio mixers vs. multi track recorders. We will be running one shotgun mic and just want a better control of our audio. Any suggestions on which option is best?

A Sound Devices Mix Pre would be a good starting 2 channel mixer to connect to your camera.

Thanks Eric. Do you have any suggestions if we wanted to shoot non-sync? We would rather record to an external source other than the camera.

There are many non tc recorders that will do the job just fine. Look at the Marantz line, Zoom H4, Sony and other under $500 recorders.
