Use a wireless system and besure it fastened securely to the player. That will give the best signal (voice) to noise (background sounds)ratio. Put that on one track and you can put the boom mic on the other as a “just in case” if the wireless transmitter gets knocked off the player and it will.

If you’re so bent out of shape about the B&H prices then buy it someplace else. A G3 2 piece set (tx & rx)is $600 and the 3 piece set with the plug on tx is $700 from just about everyplace.

You’ve said nothing specific about Sennheiser or offered any details about a retailer.

The Ultrasones I use are HFI 680. Best phones I’ve ever used. IMO light years ahead of the industry de facto standard Sony 7506 especially for long term daily wearing. As an FYI about the Ultrasones, be prepared to relearn how to listen and evaluate what you’re hearing.

Is there a specific reason you don’t use good monitor speakers? To answer your original question, my choice are the Ultrasone line of HP. https://www.ultrasone.com (I think).

Bet the VXLR is set up as a “balanced” or Tip, Ring, Sleeve connection and the wireless sends out an unbalanced Tip, Sleeve feed. What you need is a cable with a 3.5mm plug wired tip sleeve to an xlr-m wired unbalanced.

Contact me at audioetc@bellsouth.net and I’ll show you the line of custom cables I make for just such issues.

  • The audience is not that sophisticated nor do they care. It’s 2 hours of entertainment not brain surgery. Unless the ADR noticably detracts from the story telling it’s all good.

I listened to the samples and even though there was not as much real world dialog samples as I would like I really liked the Sanken as an overall goto shotgun. I even liked it better than the Neumann 81i as the 81i has a noticeable low end bump (that can be easily removed with a HPF at 80hz). Go with the Sanken, you won’t have buyers remorse. OTOH I use my Sennheiser MKH 50 indoors & out and only reach for my 81i as a last resort.
