If you set both the tx & rx at -20 you’re at a good place to start. A lot depends on wether the rx feeds a mixer that feeds the camera at line level into line input on the camera. If you have a mixer to feed the camera and can generate a test tone from the mixer, set the mixer level at “0” and the camera at -20 then you’ll be good to go. Keeping the levels on the camera at about -12 will insure you have enough headroom to avoid clipping.

So far you’ve covered all the bases very well except one. You’re assuming the board output connection is going to be via an XLR connection. Depending on the board it could be an XLR, 1/4″ TRS jack or a pair of RCA females. You should have adapter cables for each so you don’t get surprised.
If the output connection is RCA then the adapter cable will have to be RCA to XLR-M unbalanced. To make an unbalanced RCA to XLR you have to connect the RCA ground to pins 1 & 3 in the XLR and the + to pin 2.

The output cable for the G2/3 has a male XLR at the end for output. You want a cable with a female xlr on the end or a turnaround XLR (female to female adapter)for input to your transmitter.
Be aware that most mixers if not all in that catagory do not have mic level outputs and most likely do not have xlr output connectors.
The simplest way would be to place a transmitter with a lav mic on the speaker and adjust the level as required.
I know many “event videographers” who do that and find that it works just fine for their needs.

Yes. The DR40 is a very good recorder with many options that the Beachtek is not designed to do as it’s not a recorder. Besure to read the DR40 manual to understand all the functions the DR40 offers. Smart choice on your part.

The G3 will do the job very well. I use the G2 series and they work well for my use. Probably less expensive than the Lectro 100 at about $600 for tx&rx with a lav mic included.

There’s no need to record to both channels. Keep it simple & uncomplicated. The shield to pin 1, the blue to pin 2 & the white to pin 3. This will give you audio on track one only. BTW if the 5 pin XLR is on the Arri Alexa then forget it as the Alexa is line level input only and cannot work with a mic level signal.

Is the OP asking about lav mics or wireless systems? Two different things and a bit confusing when not specified.

The small flower balconys on either side of the stage would be my choice if it’s practical for you. If you put the mics on stage you’re going to have the foldback monitors blowing into them, not what you want for audience reaction mics.

Somewhere in the manual that came with your unit is a battery life chart. Check that to see what Tascam estimates. OTOH 5 min on Alkaline AA’s say there’s something wrong unless there’s a setting in the menu for alkaline batterys. I would contact Tascam tech support and explain it to them. They’re pretty good at customer support.

Friends of mine who are “Event Videographers” (weddings,etc) use their on camera mics for general room ambience and always on a seperate track. I doubt any of them has a camera mic that costs more that $150 and most use what came with the camera for that job.
