Wiring for mono mic to 5pin xlr
I’ve got a mono camera mic that I need to send out with a camera that has a stereo 5 pin. I’m looking for help with the wiring for this. I understand this isn’t the ideal fix but it’s the fix I have to make. I have the male 5 pin but need to make the correct wiring. Any help would be appreciated.

If it’s wired as most others are, it should be:
Pin 1 = Shield
Pin 2 = +/Non-inverting (left channel)
Pin3 = -/Inverting (left channel)
Pin 4 = +/Non-inverting (right channel)
Pin 5 = -/Inverting (right channel)HOWEVER: I think it would be best to make/buy a breakout cable similar to this. That will allow you to use either channel, both channels, or even feed them separately for a “normal” channel and what I call a “scream” channel (gain set to not distort during louder-than-usual passages). To make your own, you would just split Pin 1 to both XLR 3-pin connectors and use Pins 2 & 3 on the Left/Channel 1 connector and Pins 4 & 5 on the Right/Channel 2 connector.

Excuse my ignorance but I’m out of my comfort zone here so I appreciate your help and patience.
You see from the pic I uploaded of the cable coming off the mic that I only have blue, white and shield. Do I split the blue to the two different pins and the white to the two different pins?

There’s no need to record to both channels. Keep it simple & uncomplicated. The shield to pin 1, the blue to pin 2 & the white to pin 3. This will give you audio on track one only. BTW if the 5 pin XLR is on the Arri Alexa then forget it as the Alexa is line level input only and cannot work with a mic level signal.

Here’s the thing. I’m pretty certain a mono mic doesn’t want to see phantom power from two separate sources. I think you should consider feeding only one track or using a Sound Devices MixPre-D with a custom built cable that takes the two XLR outputs and combines them into a five pin that plugs into the camera.
