December 29, 2009 at 4:17 pm in reply to: How to remove light reflection from glass/window?I think in this situation it might be OK to see some kind of reflection in the glass, it’s just that it’s bluish and obviously a video monitor. You might be able to get away with a bit of masked color correction rather than replacing the pixels. If you can isolate the bluish rectangles with two 4 point masks and color correct them more toward the other warm tones in the shot, it would make them less noticeable. If you bring down the brightness of the rectangles a bit too you might be able to make them almost disappear.
If the camera is moving it becomes complicated but it is possible to manually track a mask. It takes a lot of patience but it can be done.

December 29, 2009 at 3:35 pm in reply to: Trying to add contrast on export causing problemsTry nesting your entire timeline in FCP and adding your contrast effect to the resulting clip. Then you can export and author a DVD the same way you did in the beginning.

Same here. I like my final timeline to be an exact reproduction of the master tape, including the bars etc. that way if someone calls and says your master is horked you have evidence to prove them wrong 😉

November 11, 2009 at 5:40 pm in reply to: Is there a way to put your render files in a different directoryI only have one media drive, an external RAID. I obviously want to keep both the digitized footage and the renders on the RAID for speed but I want to separate them into different directories so that my backup strategy is simpler. There’s no need to back up the renders.
I’m surprised no one else has hit this problem before.

Base your decision on the audience and not the host. Personally I would go because a few years back I was cajoled into presenting at a user group and it turned out to be one of the best things I ever did.
If it turns out to be a sandbag then just put your professional attitude front and center in your presentation. If the host mocks you it will just make him look like a jerk. Trust the audience. They’ll figure it out. …And don’t ever apologies for your equipment. It’s the work that matters.
I’ve seen this type of equipment snobbishness before but RED as a company really seems to be about the opposite. They’re the rebels making high quality stuff with cheaper equipment. Stick to that argument instead of “how big your chip is” and you’ll do fine.

So you aren’t getting an error message when you try to put your capture and render files in different directories on the same disk?
