So after all that running around trying to get this MC back to its last known working form, all it took was an update to OS 10.9.5.
Now why didnt I think of that?
Well for starters the last time I updated MC was 8.3 and back then 10.9.4 was the “approved” OS or so I thought.
Even after dealing with support they did not even mention anything about the version I had.
I guess we all assumed if it works with 10.9.5 then it should work with the older OS…sure fooled me.
All is good again and I am running MC 8.3.1 with Desktop Video 10.3.7 on a new Mac Pro with OS 10.9.5.
Sure I can dabble and move up to Yosemite to take advantage of my LG 31MU97 4K LCD but I think I pulled out enough hairs this last few days 😛

Installed Avid MC 7.0.4 and Black Magic Desktop Video 10.1.1. on a newly formatted Mac Pro running 10.9.4.
The client monitor playback is pristine and no visible issues to date.
I will now update to Avid MC 8.2 and leave the Desktop Video at 10.1.1. to see if that works.
I suspect its Avid MC 8.3. that’s causing all this since all our new Mac Pros with 8.3 are acting up with the UltraStudio 4K.

I forgot that the SDI ports from the ROCKET are only HD/2K.
But for some weird reason I got UltraHD out of it during a Sony PVM X300 test.
We know the number was correct when pressing the display button.
We do have a RED BOB (breakout box) that will shoot to Quad HDMI (four displays) but this wont help unless there is a quad HDMI to HDMI 4K converter.

On the new Mac Pro side we have the UltraStudio 4K working decent with Avid MC 8.3.1.
However there are issues and not necessarily in a 4K format either.
I have to shut monitor off to avoid horrible playback.
Happens about 20 seconds of playback in.
At first I thought it was only a Multi-Cam issue but its an issue period.
I havent got around to dealing with Tech on this matter.
The bonus from our end is that the ROCKET is being utilized (not Full Debayer) during playback with AMA R3D 4K files from the UltraStudio to an LED 4K at QuadHD.
Cant seem to get that working with REDCINE via US4K 😛

Some DVD players do a decent job of smoothing out the anomalies from a DVD burn.
If you play off your system using a mirror option onto a TV you might see all that crap.
Now what kind of display is the question.
Is it an old CRT or LCD?

I believe that “Big Breakthrough” means the ability to suck my company dry of yearly support since 1996; drop some key hardware support from future scope;and be late for the party in the 4K race, whilst almost shutting itself down due to bad business practices.
Nope I dont think FCPX will ever live up to that legendary status 😛
