Agreed and hopefully Apple will let us break it up across multiple screens 🙂

    Not dumb at all.
At times the COW tends graze at other posts 😉

Yes Ive moved massive projects from FCPX to Resolve then exported AAF to Avid MC.

Now these were Audio Sync clips and not edited footage but it still transferred well.

Marc can you see R12 as a finite editing tool, say a the end of the line like?
I ask this with current project rough-cut in Premiere and then handed off to me to grade in Resolve.
I installed R12 but havent tried anything deep yet.
Curious on how it deals with audio.

It all depends on the I/O of your computer.
If it can handle the TGA sequential files in RAM preview then your fine.
But once you start duplicating layers, compositing masks then effects thats where you will see the hit on your system.
Without knowing what your applying its really up to your experience.
As a workflow I honestly keep everything at high res since I work in typical Xeon PC Workstations (Dell/BOXX) and a slew of new Mac Pros.
They all average 32GB RAM and the PCs are loaded with older NVIDIA cards.
The slow down is the drive your reading the files from.
I would maybe flatten some layers if your ready e.g. render all passes into one layer in a proxy QT.

Are you creating layers from scratch within AE or are you bringing in vectors from another source?
I work in 4K up to 6K in AE and the only slow down I get is when I try to incorporate RED files in multiple layers.

I also deal with Digital Signage of all sizes e.g. sports venues, events, etc…

Need to know more specs on your system too.

The only time I will deal with sequential files is if Im rendering out of Maya.
QT as proxy should be fine and I have experienced 4K proxy h264 editing on a 2008 MBP Uni.

All your fx needs will transfer over if of course that effect supports a high res (most do but Ive ran into some that top out at 17000 pixels).

Just wondering is your target playback system that size of 2048×1080?

I have to ask this cause Ive had to create content with odd res for special displays and region settings on digital signage players.

[James Ewart] “when you say “massive”??

    Just curious.
    “

Over 1100 RED clips and WAV.

The rough cut finally got under 2 hours 😛

Dont you just love waking one morning and finding this error pop-up 😛

It started for me on a new project due to an import of an After Effects logo animation file.

For me the error pops up then crashes Avid.

Fixed it by starting a new project and imported the Bins.

Must be a perm issue 😛

Sorry that seems to be the norm from tech support.

Note: not a perm issue just a bad QT file which took a few renders to finally get going. Odd when its something Ive been doing for years.

So I converted the sequence to FCP7 XML (from Premiere) and then 7toX, which surprisingly came across completely intact. But the UI performance simply isn’t there – Oliver Peters

Maybe its a conversion thing cause I too converted a FCP 7 project over to FCPX and it too was a little sluggish at the start.
New this was over a year ago and havent had to do that again, but I do have a massive feature on Premiere and will test that soon.
