Resolution problem please advice!
Hi,
I have a footage that is shot and edited in 2K – 2048×1080
In the small view window its fine but when I full screen it it automatically adds 2 small black bars on the top and bottom which I assume is normal because probably my monitor is just a 1920×1080 monitor.
I exported the master as the original resolution 2048×1080 then converted the file to 1920×1080 with a software that i regularly use but in the end the 1920×1080 file still has the black bar. I’m wondering why this is?
Is there a way i can remove the black bars? Because I tried uploading it to youtube and in youtube I still see the black bar when I full screen it on my iPhone. I actually want a real full frame image when I full screen it..
I tried changing the project setting to 1920×1080 and yet it still has the black bar but weirdly when I click export master file the resolution is not following my project setting. It’s 1920×1013 for some odd reason..
Please advice! Thanks and much appreciated.

You cannot “remove” the black bars. You can crop the video however.

How come? : ( Will cropping it lose quality?

Just load up the 2K originals and use the Spatial Conform to have it fill the frame:

2048×1080 is wider than 1920×1080 so you either have to crop off the sides to make it fit or you have to downscale it resulting in the black bars.

I think 1920×1013 is the image itself, not the image plus the top/bottom black bars (which would equal 1920×1080). Basically, FCP isn’t encoding the black bars because it knows the player will add them if need be.

Just wondering is your target playback system that size of 2048×1080?
I have to ask this cause Ive had to create content with odd res for special displays and region settings on digital signage players.
