Personally I think high overall bitrates are the biggest cause of faulty discs. What was your bitrate and did you use AC3 audio?

DVDSP is a DVD authoring tool. Blu Ray is not DVD. Just because they both are on a shiny disc doesn’t make them the same. Apple won’t be bringing anyone a BD authoring tool for many reasons.

I think you’re talking about using an overlay to “mask” an area of motion embedded in the video itself. For example, you have 3 button with text with a blue background. Next to each of these button would be your spinning icon or whatever you like. You would then construct an overlay which masked this icon and match its color with the blue background. This way, once you set the normal state to match the blue it completly covers up the icon. On the activated state you would set the buttons opacity to “0”, making the icon appear. The opposite of the normal path in button overlays. There’s a tutorial floating out there somewhere but i can’t find it right now. The problem is that on many players, the 8bit will disappear for a split second before it goes onto the track…showing the world your little secret 🙂
The spec does allow for moving 8 bit overlays as well. But something like this can’t be done in DVDSP…only high end authoring programs. If you look at Spiderman disc you will see an example of this.

Check your bitrates too with the tools listed on that site. Make sure you use AC3 audio

HD DVD and DVD are 2 different formats. HD DVD will not play on a standard DVD player. You need to author a Blu Ray disc for get a HD signal.

No need to script this at all. Actually using stories is perfect for this siutaion and also how most professional disc would be authored. The stand alone track would be the individual piece while a story of the same track would be apart of the play all. Once a story is created its a self contained title with its own end jump.

Or the biggest culprit was they used a high bitrate and PCM audio. These guys dont’ do DVD…..They fly helicopters!! Get a bitrate viewer and check the bitrates: Needs to be withing 8mb/s

If the audio is PCM, then extract the audio and video with something like MPEG Stream Clip and redo the disc in your authoring tool of choice.
Tons of good tools and guides on that site I gave you.
It could be bad/cheap media too so burn another disc and see how it does.

Yeah…you’re right. I’m going to try doing a small 5 min test through Compressor first. If we’re not happy, it will have to be through an Alchemist tape to tape, then captured uncompressed to a digital file. Oh….The Horror!!
