Yes I’m aware of that but working with these authoring tools on a daily basis, I can tell you there are lots of issues and work-arounds at the productions level. So it is effectively still beta technology at this point. The Spec is nice and all on paper but to get these tools to implement it is another story – Especially for people who comb the Cow.

I think the point Noah was trying to make was that its old technology with many constraints.

3DBD technology is still in beta…it will be sometime before you see anything on the prosumer level

You actually need two files (left and right eye) to encode. If you contact me offlist I can forward you a name. Just a word of warning…it very expensive. Near $200 per minute of video not including the authoring.

No…you need specialty software. Its pretty much a beta technology at this point no matter what piece of equipment you buy or use….even for the studios with millions of dollars and the brightest minds.

All PAL players will play NTSC discs. Just send a region free NTSC disc and you’ll be fine

You can do this with AviSnyth and Virtual dub and match the quality of a hardware converter – but its PC only

You could put a still menu on the disc with whatever text you’d like. Since there will be no button connection, the end user will never see it. Get any number of free DVD editors to view the hidden menu.
However, theres really no need to worry about piracy. Its easily defeated and unless your printing millions of copies worldwide, its not really effecting your bottom line. If thousand of people were prirating your title, youd be rich already anyway 🙂

Authoring software as nothing to do with the quality of your streams. Your using the lowest quality allowed by the spec so I wouldn’t expect miracles in how it looks or behaves in players
