Probably because the DTS file is not legal for Blu Ray. 🙂 DVD and Blu Ray are 2 different beasts and audio need to be encoded with a BD compliant DTS encoder

There were some titles early on which were MPEG 2 but almost titles in the last 4 years have been AVC or VC-1

If the festival is asking for BD then they are asking for Hi Def. You dont have Hi Def since you didnt transfer it that way. You need to create DVD. They play back on BD players fine. Id call them and tell them your unusual circumstance.

No, you have SD so up-rezing wont do a thing so all other questions are moot.
The question should be why did you master a 16mm film to DVCam? Dont you have a HI Def image file of the film?
Putting a SD image on BD is fine but it will still be SD and up-rezed by the player. No reason to make a BD here, just a DVD.

It all depends on what you consider amazing? Depending on who you go to, they will most likely be using a much better encoder backed by a seasoned staffer who knows compression. You can see a difference in the quality done by a GOOD professional compared to Encore’s encoder but it all depends if its worth it to you.
I’d say keep it as is if looks good to you already:)

Hmmmm…just doing a simple google search on “Pal to NTSC Conversion with Compressor” brought up several tutorials on this. Have you tried some and are having issues?

If you’re on the Mac, Just use Compressor staight out of your timeline to create a 720×480 16×9 anamorphic uncompressed or lossless file then used that file again to make a MPEG 2 file. Never used MPEG Stream clip for down conversions so I cant say.
Also Do a search, there are tons of good posts on this topic already.

This question is asked probably twice a week
You need to down convert your sequence to 720×480 NTSC or 720×576 PAL uncompressed 23.98 16×9 anamorphic first. After this you can encode with Compressor you get the MPEG 2 file you need. FCP isnt very good down conveter…best to use Compressor for this
