Yes…If you have the ability to shoot 24p then go with that. But never shoot interlaced then de-interlace your footages thinking it might be better when distributing on DVD.

DVD doesn’t support timecode. You would have to encode your HDV footage with a window burn from your NLE.

You say you need to press a button on a menu to go to a video track but you want the first frame to pause until you press play / enter again??
But I think I understand. You can pause on chapter points just not on the first chapter in a track – at least not in DVDSP. I would have each button on your main menu go to another menu with your explanation of what your going to see but use your first frame of the track as the background for the menu. Now have an invisible button with a command to jump to that track. I’m pretty sure it might turn out looking OK for you, but its worth a try anyways. 🙂

This would be a button over video situation but changing angles with buttons over video would be difficult if not impossible. I believe I’ve heard of a company up in San Fransisco that may have done something like this.
Besides…you would need a Scenarist or the Panasonic authoring system to accomplish this

One more thing. If you really wanyt to be in DVD production go to the “DVD Muxers” put on every month by the LA chapter of the DVDA. Meet people, kiss thier asses, do what you have to get in somewhere 🙂

You used to be able to go to Video Symphony in Burbank but I believe Sonic pulled all thier training contracts.
To be honest you’d be wasting your money with training. Unless you on the application on a regular basis it’s hard to keep up and someone’s not going to hire you with just training anyway.
The best thing to do is contact one of the authoring houses to see if they have any QC gigs available then work from there sitting with an author. Not sure how much you know about the DVD spec but authoring on DVDSP & Scenarist are two different worlds.

Another thing to add here: DVDs are not like making VHS copies. There are so many variables – media, bitrates, audio bitrates, recorder quality, replicators 🙂 ect. I don’t use set top recorders but I understand in your case why you need one.
Do some research online to find a recorder people like and why. Maybe its the recorder, maybe the media? Do some testing. Good Luck!
