I actually just installed the latest update and now once the export process is complete and the Media Encoder tries to open, the Media Encoder crashes and will not open. Even if I try to open the ME by itself it crashes. And still, no exported file from Premiere anywhere on my system.

Here’s what’s happening. When I go to File – Export – Media, the box pops up where I can change my export settings and such. I title it and hit OK, a small progress box pops up that says Export Status for a few seconds, then Media Encoder opens automatically after that. There are no files in the Media Encoder so I hit Add… and navigate to where I saved my file and it’s not there. So I do a spotlight search and still, nothing. It’s nowhere on my computer. Nothing ever exported from Premiere. I’ve tried it with different settings and destinations, but nothing is working.

I installed the Avid codec on my Mac and it’s playing the files in FCP but not in the Quicktime player itself. It plays the audio, but no video. Am I am still having a field issue. I’m working in 720×486 DV50. If I select to use the Avid Codec, it doesn’t let me change the field order or the resolution.

I changed the export settings to use custom settings and that seemed to work. I’ve got an interlace issue now, even if I change the field order in my export settings, it doesn’t correct the problem in FCP. Might be a setting with FCP.
Is it possible to get just that Avid Codec to install on my FCP Mac?

I have used https://www.lynda.com with much success. Granted it is a pay site, but it has actual training tutorials. Self-paced, self-guided videos that start you from the beginning with the basics and take you all the way to end. Those other sites are great if you want to learn how to do specific effects, but they don’t actually explain why you’re doing one thing or another. But don’t get me wrong they are a great resource and I have turned to them numerous times for help. But when I was looking to learn After Effects, lynda.com really came through.

Now please, do not mock and humiliate me, but I do run Windows XP on my MBP only because I need to use AutoCAD from time to time. I am ordering Snow Leopard and will follow this advice but in doing this clean install of my Mac OS, will it wipe that off my Windows install as well?

I noticed something going through the new Final Cut Studio 3’s pages. All the products, except DVD Studio Pro 4 is being shown on a MacBook Pro. Color 1.5 is being shown on a MBP along with an external display. Is Apple trying to tell us something? Are they saying it’s designed for mobility? What are your ideas?
Just something that caught my eye.

Always always always get things in writing. Don’t rely on a handshake or a verbal agreement. It will save a lot of confusion if someone has issues with payment or scope of work if it is clearly stated on paper all the details of your relationship with you or your client. And when you present something like this to your prospective client, more than likely they will appreciate it and see you as an organized person who is on top of things.

We don’t need to pull the sequences from what the newsroom does on their newscutters, we just need to pull the footage they shot with their P2 cameras that they ingest into the Unity server. I know that Media Composer would work best but our department, while we’ve worked on Media 100’s, we all still have an extensive background with FCP. What I’m curious to know is exactly how FCP interacts with Unity. Does it just show up on the desktop like a standard drive or does it require specific software for FCP to access it? Really, I’m looking to hear if anyone has used this setup yet and what or if any success they’re having with it.
