I would be careful about using the name “Choppers Ink”. There is already a “Choppers Inc.” located in Melbourne, Florida. It’s Billy Lane’s shop and was featured on the Discovery Channel a couple of times. The shop is very popular in the custom chopper world and has a very well established reputation. While the work “Ink” is spelled with a K instead of a C, the pronunciation is the same. It could cause a big confusion amongst viewers.

I’m running Avid FX 5.8.0. My graphics card is a NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700, driver version 6.14.11.9038. My OS is Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2.
I’ve uploaded the video for you to see what is actually going on in the spot. There is a fog layer, electrical arcs and motion blur.

I’m using the standard HP mouse that came with the computer. When the Avid technician connected to my system he was able to make the same thing happen on his end. And he was using his mouse. I don’t think it’s a mouse issue. It feels like software related. I even tried reinstalling just Avid FX and that didn’t work.

What should I white balance my camera from? Should I do it from inside the house against the window or shooting through the window with my white card outside the house?

Which HP monitor did you get? I got the Dell based on recommendations from others (mostly here on the COW). I mainly do motion graphics and video editing with it and so far am happy with the color and quality. Would you recommend anything else that’s comparable? I wanted the Apple display but they cost just way to much. I love the LED picture on my MBP.

Well this is what I can tell you. I live and work in Erie, PA. The station I am at prefers all spots and footage be sent on Beta SP (we can accept DVD’s and DVCPRO but have to convert it to Beta). In my office right now, I have a give-or-take 13 year old Betacam camera. And every single one of our edit bays, four to be exact, have a Sony UVW-1800 player/recorder. Everything our master control operations records from satellite feeds is on Beta. Ingestion station, done through Beta. The majority of commercials I shoot are shot on Beta. I do have a choice though and could use a DVCPRO camera, but it’s not the good kind of DVCPRO (and all edit bays have DVCPRO decks as well). The other station in the area and the cable company here also work on Beta or DVD.
The point I’m trying to make is it all depends on the region and stations you are delivering your tapes to. Some areas are a little behind the technological times while others have remained current. Case in point, we only do HD pass-through from our networks. No commercial production or local news or programming is aired in HD on either the local stations or the cable company. We don’t even have our local channels on DirecTV yet. So find the delivery requirements and that will give you the direction you should go in. But in my honest opinion, a used, in good condition Beta player/recorder will only run you about $1,000-1,500. As it was said earlier, if your volume is high, buy one. You can charge for making dubs because you are providing a service. And who knows, maybe you’ll be one of the few in your region that has a Beta deck and can charge to make dubs for other companies.

[Ty Ford] “”If you can make your mix sound OK on Yamaha NS10s, you’ll be OK.” “
Ty,
Those were the same exact words I read in those articles and why I was actually leaning towards them. I know they’re not produced anymore but I found some used ones in great condition. The ones you mentioned are a little out of my price range. I will probably look more at the Alesis and KRK brands. Any suggestions on those? The acoustics of my room are pretty flat and I will primarily be using them for sound monitoring for TV commercials and short films. -
I was looking at the KRK and the Alesis monitors. I guess what I’m asking, are the NS10’s still the considered the best and the de-facto of audio monitors? In reading some articles, everyone was saying you could not walk into a recording studio then and still now without seeing the NS10’s.

I guess that’s a Windows trick. I tried it on my Mac and I don’t think anything happened. And when I tried to export something again, it didn’t work. I’ll try to reinstall everything this weekend and see if that helps.
