Ted,
Thanks. No, not too late. What you described is pretty well what I did, but using Shapeshifter and didn’t use the reflection map. I am going to try what you mentioned now.
Now,I did put the fractal noise on the SS layer, not on the displacement map layer.

Thanks Walter and others,
Working with your ideas now and will post an image for those that care to see progress.
I continue to appreciate ideas.

Thanks. Plenty of ideas now.
If anyone is curious how far I got so far, I did this using Shapeshifter for that lift I was going for on the edges and also has an obvious fractal noise and masked for animation. The animation is not the best but I will get back to that.

Well, I sure hope you read the solution in the thread. Someone posted a picture of how to fix it. Wow, I wrote that a long time ago.

Darby,
Yes, that was right, just a before and after to see the effect I was against. I naturally, did the selective on/off thing until I identified the problem area and then as it turned out, I was able to just removed an unecessary layer anyway.
So, at this point it is good to go. It did however cause some other colors to get brighter but I was able to fix those individually.
Appreciate it.

Well, it seems I was able to figure a work around to resolve my 8 bit and 32 bit issue. I ended up deleting an unecessary layer but there were still some settings that turned out much brighter when changed to 32 bit.
I guess the lesson learned is start with 32 if you intend to get there. Although in this case, I had no idea I would end up using something in 32 bit later. 🙂
Thanks for the pointers though.

Hi Darby,
Thanks for the reply. I am attaching 2 screen captures to show you what it is doing.
I will have to try the clip output option you mentioned but otherwise, not sure why it is doing what it’s doing.
Here is the link for a screenshot I made:

September 24, 2011 at 2:43 pm in reply to: Plugin/Effect Animation Presets missing in CS5?Boy, this was a big help. I can’t count how many times I’ve run in to this and just accepted that the presets were no longer available!
Thanks!

Thanks. I do have DE snow storm but not sure I am too pleased with it but to give credit, I am not well versed in using it.
The snow flakes were very rounded and maybe there is a setting for that.
I got to a pretty good point with Particular, which I love and wish I could attach the draft here.
Also, DE kept crashing, especially if I used the “pile up” setting. It was pretty scary because when it opens back up, you are in a loop with the crash and BETTER have a previous version of your AE project.
Maybe I need to post my own tutorial now. 🙂

Hello,
I’ve been toying around here and there and see references to depth maps but like the original poster here, not sure how to create one. Ideally, it would be to be able to do so in AE C5.5. I don’t have photoshop either.
The original response to this really just directs to a link showing depth maps. Well, I know what they look like, just not how to create one.
Can anyone explain a process? And, to complicate it further, can it be done to video?
I did purchase the digi program Depth but have had zero luck on that and can’t seem to get any help with the program.
Thanks,
Eric
