  • No, it will show the video, and play it back in real time if your CPU is powerful enough. If not, it will play with dropped frames until you render.

Thanks, Craig. Ctrl-K works. Good to know. Do you know the keystroke for trim to the CTI? It seems I have seen that somewhere, but now it eludes me.

That last command I dewscribed in my post isn’t that unique – it’s just a way of further automating the process of setting up a linked clip in AE. This is a bit of a pain if you are editing in HDV format, because AE doesn’t like native HDV. You have to render it out in some frame based format first. Being able to set up a macro to do this with a single keystroke would be really handy.

That would explain it. I have a 4.5 TB array. Partition Magic time.

Yes, I see it. I have an Axio with an external SATA RAID (U320 SCSI interface). I think you’re on to something.

Do you have the same versions of PPro on both machines? You can go from older to newer, but not backward. Try importing the project into a new project with the same project settings.

The protocol won’t be the same. RS422 devices use the Sony P2 protocol. The JVC unit undoubtably uses a different protocol which is designed to be used with multimedia controllers from Crestron and AMX, etc. You should be able to confirm this in the JVC documentation.

The Matrox Axio LE has just been released, and has excellent real time performance in SD and HD. It will require a powerful dual processor workstation. Complete systems (with workstation) start at under $10K.

I don’t know about running an RTX and a DigiSuite card on the same system. This sounds like potential trouble.

Make sure you are using the correct PCI slot for the RTX card (see Matrox web site). Do you have Matrox Hot Fix 2 patch installed? I have a nearly identical system configuration, and my system seems stable.

As to your workspace problem, I would suggest using the keyboard mapping to assign a hotkey to your favorite (user) layout.

[Pablo] “At the end of the day the client wont care how ‘real time’ your sytem is”

Rendering blows, especially if you have a client sitting there. With I/O cards you end up rendering 90% of everything. Axio is more like 10%. For pro editors a few grand is a small price to pay for a superior system. And clients CAN tell the difference.
