  • Trouble saving to a striped volume…

Posted by Alex Udell on March 10, 2006 at 2:11 pm

    Hi Guys…

    With a Matrox Axio Configuration:

    1) Promise Controller card
    2) Internal SATA RAID
    3) Per Martox config: 64k cluster format of drives
    4) Premiere Pro 1.5.1 with Axio 1.5 drivers

    Experiencing the following:

    1) Can’t save a Photoshop file directly to the Striped set
    2) Can’t save a Encore Project directly top the striped set

in both cases, Application reports that the disk is full.

    3) Files can be saved to C: and copied to the striped set manually

Both Premiere and Audio save fine and Premeiere captures to the media volume with no problems.

    4) Can’t defrag Striped volume using Windows Defrag or the full version of Disk Keeper

I suspect the 64Kb clustering to be the root of the issue….but just wanted to bounce these symptoms off everyone…

    Anyone else seen this?

    Thanks….

    Alex

Yes, I see it. I have an Axio with an external SATA RAID (U320 SCSI interface). I think you’re on to something.

    Hi E,

What’s your controller card and gerenal config?

    Thanks…

I have seen this many times before with Adobe apps.
Is your Striped set in the 2 TB range or larger?

If the answer is yes then you will have to partition the drives into 1.5 TB or smaller to write to them from some Adobe apps.

Photoshop 7 would not write to anything over 1TB

I wish that they would fix these issues.

    Good Luck,
    Steve

That would explain it. I have a 4.5 TB array. Partition Magic time.

I’m running a 1.5 Terabyte array and can save all types of Adobe files with a a LSI 320-2E PCIe Megaraid at x8.

Yes Peter, 1.5 TB should be fine for all of the new apps. The next hurdle comes at 4 TB, I have not had the ability to test this configuration.

Anyone out there with new Adobe Collection and over 4TB of storage?

    Let us know.

    Well…

Encore is giving fits at 1.2 TB.

(at least the one with the previous video collection)
