Has anyone figured out a way to split clips with a single keystroke? I didn’t think so. EARTH TO ADOBE!!! I suggest you assemble an emergency team to implement this feature FORTHWITH. And if you decide to implement this as part of a comprehensive macro feature that would allow editors to perform even more complex actions with a single keystroke, so much the better.

Like wouldn’t it be cool if you could position the cursor near a cut point; hit a key, and have the cut extend or retract to the cursor (shift for ripple)? Maybe if you held the key down, you could drag the edit point around.

Or you could select some clips; hit a key, and they would be copied to a new sequence that replaces the clips in the original sequence, which would then be rendered into something AE friendly (assuming the orig. footage is HDV) and opened in a new AE clip linked composition? That would be impressive.

“Split clips” – do you mean razor ? Ctrl -K (customise it to a single key if you want). Maybe you mean something different by “split clips”

There is a short cut for a Trim to the CTI position. Do not think there is one that extends to the CTI position though

You can drag the edit point in a number of ways including using the slip , slide, trim, rolling edit tools provided. Try CTRL Drag and Alt Drag for a start.

Your last request is too personalised to your work flow but copying & pasting clips is as easy as CTRL-C and CTRL-V

Thanks, Craig. Ctrl-K works. Good to know. Do you know the keystroke for trim to the CTI? It seems I have seen that somewhere, but now it eludes me.

That last command I dewscribed in my post isn’t that unique – it’s just a way of further automating the process of setting up a linked clip in AE. This is a bit of a pain if you are editing in HDV format, because AE doesn’t like native HDV. You have to render it out in some frame based format first. Being able to set up a macro to do this with a single keystroke would be really handy.

If you want HDV to work well in AE7, use Cineform Aspect HD. Even Adobe admits that HDV doesn’t work well in AE7.

Eric : take a look at the Keyboard customisation menu. The Trim to CTI is in there and maybe many others you would like to use for your own work flow.

You will find a vast array of customiseable short cuts (and some glaring omissions).

I have customised a few to suit my workflow and they really make a difference.
