Rendering is CPU dependent, so going to a dual quad core setup (if you are not already there) would improve rendering performance.
I have heard that 64-bit might add 30% to overall performance, but this was a general figure, not specifically regarding rendering.
I have a Matrox Axio and an RTX2 system. These are the only cards on the market that significantly increase rendering and export speed, on my systems maybe 4x the speed of CPU based renders (and I have a very powerful system). MPEG2 encoding just screams, both in HD and SD.
It looks like your system might be on the Matrox certified system list, so it might be an easy upgrade.
If you are editing 720P (1280×720), save your money, and go for an RTX2 LE at under $1,000. If you need 1920×1080 and HDSDI, check out the Axio LE. Performance boost is similar between the two cards.

Right click on the audio clip in the timeline. Select audio gain. Enter a db valuer, or click the normalize button (which will add enough gain to bring your highest peak up to 100%). Note that this affects the waveform, as well as the level (which the rubber band and the volume filter do not). This is generally a good thing, as it makes the waveform easier to see.

The project manager works by making a copy of your original project. So you may need as much additional free space as the original project takes up. Then it’s up to you if you want to delete the original.
It sounds like you don’t have enough room on your hard drive.

You might want to try Premiere first to see if you like it. That would save you $1300., and the integration with AE and PS is awesome. I frankly prefer it to FCS2 as an overall editing/effects package.

Then I’m sure you know about holding down the CTL key while you are dragging the cursor around the color wheels. It scales down the mouse motion to allow much more subtle adjustment.
I did a color correction on a high-end TV spot recently, and the very picky client was impressed with the dramatic improvement we made to already very nice looking source material. Just a slight adjustment of the gamma curve in the luma mapping tool really pulls the details out of the shadows, and evens out the contrast.

November 12, 2008 at 4:30 pm in reply to: PPro CS3: Installed, initial thoughts, crash!I think there are issues with the titler locking up with some fonts. The reason I am having good luck is that I haven’t installed many additional fonts above and beyond the Win XP stock set.
Be sure you have upgraded to 3.2, because I think I read somewhere that there was some kind of fix for this problem in this update.

Thanks, Rafael. Of course I meant Encore, not Audition. Adobdislexia.

Yes, you can uninstall and reinstall individual programs in the Adobe Production Studio package, although I’d try uninstalling and reinstalling AspectHD first.

November 10, 2008 at 3:08 pm in reply to: Opening PP2 Projects in PP3 = Offline MediaI have had this same issue, and here is the only cure I have found (with help from Adobe tech support) other than going back to CS2.
Re-import your source clips that are currently showing “offline” (perhaps to a different folder). Reimported clips should come in “online” without issue, but of course, they are not on the timeline.
For each clip showing “offline” on the timeline, load the reimported source clip into the source viewer. Right click on the clip on the timeline, and select “Replace with Clip from Source Monitor – Match Frame”. Timeline clip should now be online. Rinse and repeat for your other offline clips.
