MPEG-2 DVD exports separate video and audio files, specifically for Encore DVD and other DVD encoders that prefer separate files. If you use just the MPEG-2 encoder, it will embed the audio in the MPEG file, and will play both video and audio in various media players.
As to your other problem:
1) Buy Quicktime Pro ($30.)2) Load clip into Quicktime Player. Go to Window>Show Movie Properties>Presentation.
3) Click the “Conform Apeture To:” box. The setting will change from “Classic” to “Clean Apeture”.
4) Save.

I typically use the Quicktime version of H.264 with pretty good results. I think the straight H.264 encoder is primarily for Blu-ray encoding.

I don’t think you can mark ins and outs. You have to cut the clip out with the razor, then either drag to the project window, or use the right click menu: “Make Subclip”. With your method, you have just copied instances of your original clip.

What are your export settings? Make sure you haven’t picked a progressive preset.

All I’m saying is that you can’t do a crossfade between two clips where the out and in points are at the end of the source clips. There is no overlap to work with. That’s why you have to move the edit points in slightly to allow for overlap.
Music editing can be challenging – the more “musical” you are, the easier it is. You can’t put an edit any old place and have it sound good (unless you are lucky). You have to be sensitive to the beat, the chord progression, the phrasing, the key, and other asthetic factors. That being said, try to get something that sounds close, and try improving it by tweaking frame by frame.
Other than cut, copy, and paste, I don’t know of any looping function in Premiere. If you have the Adobe suite, you could mess with some of the canned selections in Soundbooth. With these, you can set your ideal duration, and Soundbooth will tailor the music to match. There may even be a loop function.

Cat5 cable has 8 conductors, 4 of which are actually used for an Ethernet connection – 2 transmit, and two receive. If you don’t use the right color order on the pins, but are consistant with the connectors on either end, the cable will work – there is an electrical connection from the correct pin to the correct pin, but since Ethernet uses a balanced pair for both transmit and receive, it is important that the balanced signal is sent down the same twisted pair in order to cancel out common mode interferance. If you use the wrong color order, you might have one leg going down one twisted pair, and the other leg going down another. If you happen to have T and R signals going down the same twisted pair, there is further potential for crosstalk, which is made worse with higher frequencies (GigE) and longer lengths.
The correct color order is readily available online – Google it (or maybe Bing it ;>)

The Matrox I-frame MPEG codec is very similar to both ProRes and DNxHD – they are all frame-based DCT codecs based on MPEG2. Matrox doesn’t offer a 10-bit version (yet), but other than that, it is excellent (visually lossless). One nice feature is that (unlike the others) the compression is adjustable, so you can fine tune it for quality vs. storage space. It also supports alpha.
