Premiere CS5 sees the NX5 timecode.

  • The Matrox MXF export in Premiere creates the proper file/folder structure. We use this feature frequently, as it is the best way to pass material from PPro (Win) to FCP using a compressed video format.

  • Have the Premiere guy export the file as DVCPRO HD MXF (P2 format). That will import into FCP just like any P2 media.

To maintain Windows and Mac compatability on a NAS system, could I use XFS (Linux) instead of SMB (Windows) or AFP (Apple)? Any advantage in running a server-based network over a server-less peer-to-peer network?

I think your matte clip has to go on the next track up, not underneath.

I agree with Ben. These cameras just encourage newbie camera types to attempt high-end shooting with (frequently) dismal results. As an editor for an HD series on a popular cable channel, the quality of material I see coming in from these cameras (compared to a pro video rig) is (on average) pretty sad. We are seriously considering rejecting all DSLR production out-of-hand. Not that these cameras can’t produce good images in the right hands. It’s just that pros that could handle DSLRs would opt for a more professional camera.

I assume you have a foreground subject. In After Effects, you could create an animated mask around the foreground object (cutting it out), and layering it over the blurred background (or you could just darken the background, etc). It’s doable, but pretty hard if you aren’t familiar with the program. But, hey, learn by doing, right?

A good place to start would be the instruction manual section about creating a freeform mask for a layer (after you figure out how to set up a project/composition); then learning about how you can modify each keypoint as the subject moves by animating them. It’s pretty easy once you figure out the program.

Sounds to me like a disk issue. You might want to check your raid performance with IOMeter or Aja disk performance utility.

Where’d you read that? I’ve seen Premiere exports showing over 90% (in performance monitor) on dual processor quad core Xeons with hyperthreading (16 processors). And it was fast.
