October 29, 2013 at 8:29 pm in reply to: 4K online with Resolve and (what else?)

Since you would have to Render to get it out to any other application… why not Render something your system can play and use that as your intermediate…

Or, check sync by lowering the Debayer decoder quality, since visual quality is not as important for a sync check, as long as your setting for real time are not the lowest of the low…

Also, if you can’t get the XML into your NLE why not do a single file render? that way, if there are fixes, you just need to do the bad shots and overwrite.

FCP7 technically does not support anything above 2k… you can use 3k assets in it, but it’s not stable. So if you need an NLE that can do 4k, then as far as I know Smoke and Premiere are your best options, FCPX can be used also… Or Resolve 10b3.

Are the SHADED portions of the timeline the parts that are missing?

If so, it looks like you may not have rendered with “Use Unique File names” checked. This will cause multiple instances of a clip to be overwritten each time it is rendered.

    Hope that helps.

In that case, you can load the new XML into the same project and if you were using the “Remote” vs “Local” grades, then a good portion of your work could translate very easily. You would still need to double check all of your tracking.

    If not that, then Colortrace.

October 26, 2013 at 4:03 am in reply to: Premiere and Speed changes…

The issue, at least as I’ve observed it, is not the XML/EDL/AAF’s produced by Premiere. In this case, they all generated an incorrect timeline. In exactly the exact same state of incorrectness. I also “rinsed” the XML through FCP7 and received the exact same results. I opened the XML, from CC (what the client was working in) in my CS6, and had exactly the same incorrect timeline.

The files also, accurately matched the INCORRECT TC’s represented in the Source monitor as shown in the screen grab from the original post. So the issue must occur prior to the XML/EDL/AAF generation.

The issue, again as I’ve observed, appears to be how Premiere is applying the speed change. And if it is the case that inconsistencies are coming up in media without speed changes, then there is an issue with how Premiere is dealing with TC/Frame information.

I WAS able to use the EDL created from Premiere to create a preconformed timeline, but I had to then force conform every shot… pretty much the same amount of work as Blading each cut… but at least the “RECORD” TC’s for the EDL were representative of reality, even if the “SOURCE” TC’s were scattered to the wind…

  • Is that second measurement, 3x 1TB HDD’s @ RAID0? Or….

Also, are the two non VelocipRaptor volumes internal or externally attached? If external, what bus type?

If the changes were tracked at all, I would say to generate a new XML that only has the modified clips in it. Import that XML without automatically importing associated media, and copy/paste the changed portions ON TOP of a duplicate version of the originally conformed sequence.

Then, adjust tracking if needed and re-render the new portions.

  • I recently received my first project from Premiere CC and all of the clips with speed effects had the TC’s modified, irregular offset, in Premiere….

I posted a question about it on the Premiere forum because the issue starts there and noes not appear to be a Resolve issue, but there has been no response…

October 23, 2013 at 4:15 pm in reply to: Another crash and burn with V10.

Does v10 use the same naming convention as v9?

If so, render out in v9. Generate Xml. Then reconnect to the v10 renders. Or just replace the v9 render directory with the v10 directory before opening the FCP7 XML…

Not a great fix, but likely quicker then redoing all of the work.

I was going to ask a similar question… except I’m hard crashing every time I try and middle click to copy a grade… Pretty awesome.
