How are you monitoring? If you are monitoring your audio via a firewire device or some other device and monitoring picture in the FCP Canvas then your picture and audio will appear to be @ 4 frames due to a playback offset that is default in FCP.
To correct, monitor Picture and Audio through the same pipeline. If Firewire D to A, then monitor both via that. If through a PCI capture card, monitor both to that.

I suggest googling an app called “preference manager” by digital rebellion, installing said app and removing your preferences. That way if your computer is looking somewhere other than you think for the Waveform it will stop and you can reset.
Beyond that, check your privileges on your drives to make sure you have read/write access to all of them. If you don’t reset them to give you said permission.
Hope this helps.

The new AJA Kona LHi is probably the card you want. let you do the analog stuff but still gives you the option for SDI when necessary.
Beyond that, what is your end product?
Are planning on cutting online? If yes, will you be finishing or will it be going somewhere else.
How much footage are you expecting for you projects?Without this sort of information there is only so much that can be suggested without being speculative.
But other than the computer and software, and if you intend on using analog formats, the one thing you will need is a Kona card. The LHe is the predecessor to the LHi, but it doesn’t upconvert. You could probably get a cheap one when the new card starts shipping, if it will run in the new Mac Pro’s, i think it should.
The new card has HDMI and does upconverts, so it may be worth waiting for. It was just announced at NAB, so I would imagine that it will be available shortly.
Hope this helps.

Have you tried the SD-SDI to see if your SDI port is fried? Unfortunately I’m not familiar with the deck, but I have had more than one port on a K-Box go out. Though it’s usually the Composite.
You may also want to check your Kona Software, if it needs an update or the card needs a firmware update the error could correct itself in the update.
Were you monitoring the deck in the field via HD-SDI? Have you tried both HD-SDI outs? Hopefully they’re not the problem….
Good news, if its the K-Box it’s only a couple hundred bucks to get up and running.
Hopefully this helps somewhat.

“I’ve been advised by a very knowledgeable person on this subject to not even attempt to install an internal SATA burner in the MacPro. His advice: Buy an external burner.”
What reasons is he giving?
Why would he advise against?

So most likely a card is not in the machine? Super Duper.
Thanks for you help.

Apologies but this is more of a Deck question and not a FCP question. When laying down Discovery shows to SR there are no issues.
When using the F500 for History there are no issues.
I just happen to find myself in a position where a 5800 is on hand, I need to lay down a History Textless, and I have recorded HD CAM to a 5800 before (not the one on hand unfortunately).
Thank you for you response nonetheless.

Just to double check would that option be F5?
Because what I’m seeing on the deck is as follows:
F1- System Mode (Set to 1080)
F2- System Scan Mode (Set to Psf)
F3- System Frame (Set to 23.98)
F4- System Signal Mode (Set to 422 YPbPr)F6- Frame Convert (Set to 444 1080 23.98P)
F7- Active Line [HDCAM] (Set to off)I’m trying to lay off a 1080 23.98Psf show, and the deck seems to be set appropriately, minus the one thing.
And it looks as though that would be the one thing, if it belongs where it seems like it should be.
If that is the case, then the rental house has some explaining as to why we were not given a deck with all the boards when that is what was requested.

It is, and that seems to be where I have gotten myself confused.

Apologies, for any vagueness.
I’m trying to record an HD CAM show, using the 5800. I’ve had no issues using it to record SR.
The reason for the confusion is that I’ve used the 5800 to do an upconvert/ dub to HD CAM and not SR.
And I’m trying to black the tape to layoff and no dice…
hope that clarifies.
Thanks in advance.
