Does anyone know this?
Posted by Eric Johnson on January 22, 2009 at 8:33 pmDoes anyone have any experience recording HD CAM with an SRW-5800? I’ve done this before, but I can’t seem to get it to work.
This is a rented machine and not the one I’ve used before. The deck was supposed to have all of the appropriate cards, but it I can’t tell.
Any help would be appreciated.

January 22, 2009 at 8:36 pmI’ve used a 5500 a bunch of times. What is your question exactly? You can’t get it to work? Could you be more specific?
You can find the manual online.

January 22, 2009 at 8:43 pmApologies, for any vagueness.
I’m trying to record an HD CAM show, using the 5800. I’ve had no issues using it to record SR.
The reason for the confusion is that I’ve used the 5800 to do an upconvert/ dub to HD CAM and not SR.
And I’m trying to black the tape to layoff and no dice…
hope that clarifies.
Thanks in advance.

January 22, 2009 at 8:44 pmIsn’t that an HDCAM-SR deck? I don’t have experience with it, I just thought that it just recorded HDCAM-SR and not HDCAM, but I could be wrong.

thats useful…
how about delivery and acquisition formats, hardware, OS APP & QT versions so someone can help.
I have laid back to a 5800 dozens of times without issue.

January 22, 2009 at 9:14 pmIn the System Menu, where you can switch the deck between Progressive, 1080, 720, etc….. There’s a tab for “REC FORMAT”
set that to HDCAM
if it actually has the board installed.

January 22, 2009 at 9:40 pmJust to double check would that option be F5?
Because what I’m seeing on the deck is as follows:
F1- System Mode (Set to 1080)
F2- System Scan Mode (Set to Psf)
F3- System Frame (Set to 23.98)
F4- System Signal Mode (Set to 422 YPbPr)F6- Frame Convert (Set to 444 1080 23.98P)
F7- Active Line [HDCAM] (Set to off)I’m trying to lay off a 1080 23.98Psf show, and the deck seems to be set appropriately, minus the one thing.
And it looks as though that would be the one thing, if it belongs where it seems like it should be.
If that is the case, then the rental house has some explaining as to why we were not given a deck with all the boards when that is what was requested.

January 22, 2009 at 9:47 pmApologies but this is more of a Deck question and not a FCP question. When laying down Discovery shows to SR there are no issues.
When using the F500 for History there are no issues.
I just happen to find myself in a position where a 5800 is on hand, I need to lay down a History Textless, and I have recorded HD CAM to a 5800 before (not the one on hand unfortunately).
Thank you for you response nonetheless.

January 22, 2009 at 11:05 pmoooof, it should be right there in that menu. Right where F5 would be, lower left corner.
the only caveat is I’ve only done it on the 5500, not the 5800. But I’d imagine that’s not the problem.

January 22, 2009 at 11:07 pmSo most likely a card is not in the machine? Super Duper.
Thanks for you help.
