Sounds like there is a setting being missed and your r3d’s are maintaing the “as shot” metadata on not the adjusted raw metadata.
Instead of “Clip” use “Project” and set your basic setting changes… if you need to make individual clip changes in the timeline, right-click and change the specific clip to “clip”.

February 6, 2013 at 5:40 pm in reply to: The old budget grading monitor question… What PC monitor provides close to 709?I can’t speak to the exact reasons for Sascha’s reaction, but I have a guess…
If you had looked into the discussion prior to posting, even at a cursory level, you would have seen that the general consensus of the professionals on this forum is that there is not an adequate way to display/view you work for something less than $2500 (approximate), and even then there are those that say you can’t see your image in a satisfactory fashion for less than $10-15k. I don’t know the exact cost of the Dreamcolor display that has been used by many people here, but it is definitely in that $2500 price range.
But you are asking for an option that is as much as half that, if I did my math right… I believe you can get the 17″ BMD tally monitor for that much… but I suspect it is designed to tell you there is picture where you expect there to be picture, there is an issue if there isn’t and not engineered to display 100% color in any exacting fashion.
Like I said, I’m just guessing as to the one specific reaction… and I apologize if I’m putting words in your mouth Sascha… It just seemed like it needed saying.

Turns out the issue was due to gaps in the timeline that produced the EDL.
Put some slug in there and all worked as expected.

Was doing some work today and thought I’d check about why I was doing Local vs Remote… and I found that though I know I started using Local versions for a specific reason, they are to inconvenient to just start using with no cause, the remote versions appear to work just fine…
I’m not working with Groups today, just linked media, I’m thinking the groups were why… but, yeah… I’m just gonna chalk that one up to habit… that started with some initial impetus that I can no longer ID.

At this point it may be preference, but I have more consistent results with Local… It may be a null issue now, but when I stated using Local I was getting weird anomalies in my timeline with groups and linked media and Local seemed to work where Remote gave me headaches…
Though being asked why… I come up a dry on a specific reason, the above is as close as I can remember…
Initially there was a reason, now it’s just what I do…

It’s not in front of me, but you should be able to adjust zoom when you have the Graticule and scope color options up…

Peter,
Something that I’ve wondered for some time about the Toggle Display Mode, Why does the Node graph jump screen left, and the still store go right?
As much as I like using if for general work until I need the GUI vid display, for whatever reason, I find it very distracting for those elements to switch places, it’s as much a muscle memory thing as anything I guess… because I get into one way of working then everything upends itself… I don’t mind having to bring the GUI vid back for select functions… I just wish the GUI didn’t change so drastically when it was used.
That gripe aside, I do like using it if I can avoid using the GUI Display…

Not to flog a dead horse here, and correct me if I’m wrong, Even if you had an EIZO or Dreamcolor wouldn’t it be for naught? As I understand it, the GUI (in Resolve) isn’t even designed to represent full color… even with a LUT… I mean, isn’t it subsampling the image so as to alleviate resources for the actual monitoring and application of corrections?
That’s the impression I always got from the Apple Color GUI preview… and like I said, I could be wrong…

Not sure what everyone else will say, but in my experiance, lettering camera’s is more handy for multi camera days… not for days of a shoot, but that’s only an issue if you have more than one camera planned for your shoot. I’m a big fan of a folder structure that starts with a Shoot day folder > then your camera base folders… but that is my preference.
Also, as much as the hour/reel(load) is great… Free Run Time of Day can be extremely useful and I believe all of your examples will support that, except the DSLR natively. The THM files can be used to generate TC in a couple of different apps…
