Hello There,
Thanks for the info. I took an FCP workshop a while back, and the
instructor, Kevin (forgot his last name!) mentioned motion as a good way to do titles as well.
I will check out motion, thanks for the tip,Eric

Hello Tom,
Thanks for the reply, even if somewhat terse.
I was looking for a simple way to begin using Adobe After Effects. Hokey and or corny would have worked in my case, not being critical if something is a “cartoon” or a “comic strip” and the various was characters express themselves.I tend to be a narrow thinker at times, BUT, the suggestion to use close-up of cat, with audio, is a good
suggestion.Thanks,
Eric

October 4, 2008 at 8:07 pm in reply to: FCP Batch Capture locks up – always have trouble finding cameraHello Dunwoody,
I will check the link. I did discover one thing (I think…),
that I really (REALLY) need to make sure my capture settings match what my camera is! The HV20 (in the mode I was shooting) is 1080/60i with 24p, I did a custom setup for the HV20 in that mode, and also set the communication up for fireWire HDV. That seemed to work. I will retest this soon. Thanks again,
eric

Hello John,
I was/am faced with a similar issue. I have found that I can place an avi file on my FCP timeline ( I created a DV (standard def) sequence for this, and the frame rate is the std. 29.97. In my case the avi plays in FCP, but I could not add transitions, etc. I will
convert the avi outside of FCP (using the MPEG StreamClip mentioned in the earlier post) into a mov file. I will import this mov file into FCP, and I expect to be able to edit normally (transistions, etc). There are may flavors of video editing software out there:
from very basic Microsoft Movie Maker (windows only), iMovie HD (Mac only) good for beginning editing. The Sony Vegas, Avid, and Final Cut Pro fall into the more serious category. Sony Vegas is one of the “affordable” choices, and runs on Windows. You can investigate these on the web. There are 10,000 or more tutorials on using these products.Good Luck

August 12, 2008 at 12:43 am in reply to: Resultant file size exporting from FCP to QuickTimeHello Don,
I tried the export quicktime conversion, and make a small version of the file. That works out quite nicely.
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply on this. I will try the web export you suggest.
There are many ways to go, and it seems quite daunting at times! Thanks,

Hello Michael and others,
I have been checking around in terms of Magic Bullet Software.
They have quite a line of software.
Which product would I use to slow a clip’s speed? It seems there is no one Magic Bullet!
And/or using the product (Magic Bullet Frames?) how would I decrease the speed of a given clip?
Thanks,
Eric

Hello Michael,
Thanks for the info. It seems there are so many ways to do this kind of thing! I have seen many references to Magic Bullet, I will have to check that out.
I have also seen a workflow posted capturing at the standard HDV from the HV20, and then using ProRes422 and Compressor. I will try an experiment. First shoot some footage properly exposed, etc (what a concept!). Capture it, and copy the clip three times, and try each of the methods for “converting” to 24p, and then slowing down the clip.I might even learn something!
Thanks again,
Eric
