  • FCP Batch Capture locks up – always have trouble finding camera

Posted by Eric Holzapfel on September 27, 2008 at 4:43 pm

    Hello Forum Members,
I have a consistent problem with FCP and log and capture, as well as
the ability of the program to “find” the video camera.

I have this problem when using a Canon HV20. I typically use a Firewire Basic NTSC to capture, the camera is 1080i60 (24p).

I do have firewire disks attached to my system, a MAC Pro.
I have 2 g-drives and one generic firewire drive (it is a sata drive in an ICY-Dock).

I can connect and place the camera in VTR mode before sys boot, but FCP rarely finds the camera. iMovie finds it everytime.

Once I get the camera connected, I can capture the footage, or so it seems.
I do a log and capture, in this case just 4 clips from the tape.

FCP goes into the batch capture mode. I have selected “All offline items” in the logging bin.
the camera rewinds to the first clip, starts to capture, and then stops. The capture screen shows a frame of the first clip in a slightly pixelated view. The camera stops, and FCP hangs.

I am using FCP 6.0.4, a brand new Mac Pro, etc.
any suggestions on what to look for or troubleshoot?

    thanks,

    eric

    Hello Dunwoody,

I will check the link. I did discover one thing (I think…),
that I really (REALLY) need to make sure my capture settings match what my camera is! The HV20 (in the mode I was shooting) is 1080/60i with 24p, I did a custom setup for the HV20 in that mode, and also set the communication up for fireWire HDV. That seemed to work. I will retest this soon.

    Thanks again,

    eric
