  • Did you camera come with any software for downloading files from your camera’s card/memory? I know some turn their noses up at the use of such software but it will usually join your split long files seamlessly into one avoiding the audio jump. Alternatively if you search the old Sony Creative Software forums there are posts about using old DOS commands to seamlessly join files.

John, License Verification is Item no.4 of the EULA.

Somewhere on the Magix Vegas Forum I read it happens monthly.

License Verification looks a potential deal breaker as well unless I’m reading it wrong. Say you’re away in the wilderness shooting and editing, no internet or phone connection and oops your Vegas software needs to phone home to verify in order to continue working………

Scott, can you clarify where the slowness occurs. Is it during preparation or the actual burning process.

If the latter are you using the same brand of discs that you normally use and are you able to try a different burner. If for some reason your burner is having problems with your blank discs it may drop the burning speed to 1X in which case a 3gb disc will take 45 mins to burn. That’s the only suggestion I have.

  • Your file has unusual Frame Height (1078 not 1080) and unusual fps (23 not 24 or 25). I don’t know if this is causing your problem but where did the file come from?

It’s probably not that Vegas reads the file wrong but that Canon labels its header ‘incorrectly’. The Manual of my Canon HFG10 states that “25fps progressive is recorded as 50i”. Probably this irritating habit of Canon’s is carried through to their bigger pro cameras.

You could try making a copy of the clip with a different name. Stabilise the original but not the copy. Split each and use parts from each.

Yes Ron, I’m happy with it. My only complaint is the pathetic eyepiece as it has no eyecup surround at all. This means in bright conditions it is no more useful than the LCD screen. Canon improved it with later models, like you are looking at, but they are still nothing like the decent cups you get with pro cameras. Also the eyepieceof the HFG10 cannot be tilted.

I have a card in both slots but the multi slots isn’t of interest to me. What I did find four years ago when I looked around was a problem with operating cameras remotely when on a tripod. One brand when I recently looked nowadays has no provision for plug in remote nor IR remote. Instead it has wifi connectivity so if you’re lucky you may get a smartphone to operate it! My Canon has a socket for a remote but they’re expensive. But it also came with an IR remote which operates off the screen, not the front of the camera. So on a tripod I just point the remote at the screen to stop, start and zoom. The ability to operate the camera remotely on a tripod was important to me as I dabble in closeup videography. Hence I went for the Canon.

When I last looked at video cameras a few months back Canon appeared to be slipping behind other manufacturers at the Consumer top end as they don’t do 4K. Incidentally the HFG20 is now an old model. The HFG40 is the latest version. Problem is whatever you get it’s out of date before you take it out the box as the technology escalator gets faster and faster….

I’ve a Canon Legria HFG10 which is the PAL forerunner. It has two card slots plus internal hard drive. It’s top1080 quality is AVCHD 50i 24Mbps. This is adequate for consumer use but might not suit pros. As for Vegas I have Movie Studio Platinum 12 and it has no problem with the files. How smoothly they will run on the timeline with effects, transitions etc will depend on the power of your pc.

  • Isn’t that how it is supposed to be with “Bump Map” applied? What were you expecting to see.
