I’m trying this technique and I’ve had success for the most part, but here’s my issue. I have subtitles with line breaks. Every time I export, change some things in the XML, and import it back into Final Cut I lose all the line breaks.

Any suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong?

I was rendering 24bit as I didn’t need the alpha. How strange. I’m about to try a new TGA render and will let you know if things are pear shaped or not.

It was definitely off. Very weird as to why this happened. I render to TGA sequences weekly and have never had this issue.

I’m using CS3 version 8.0.2.27, and I did not have OpenGL turned on, unless there’s another OpenGL setting I’m unaware of. I’m talking about the OpenGL setting in the preferences > Preview menu.

I’m rendering straight to a Quicktime uncompressed movie now, just to eliminate the TGA sequence issue. I use TGA’s all the time to eliminate the need to re-render things in the event of a crash, and up until this render I’ve experienced no issue with missing color channels. The movie is looking fine so far, and the deadline was for the rough cut so we just showed them the “funky colors” version. They also just changed a ton of stuff on the video, so re-renders are in the works.

I plan on restoring the preferences in AE as my next step, and of course I’ll try a small TGA sequence again to see if it was just a fluke. I just have to let the current render finish prior to messing around with it.

Thanks for the info, and if you think of any other issues that may or may not contribute to missing color channels let me know.

  • Hi Mike,

Unfortunately for you I used the Mograph tools. (I read another post you created about this same subject and noticed you have the core package)

It’s a mess of using random effectors, step effectors, cloner objects and sweep nurbs. It seems you could do basically the same thing with sweep nurbs and hand drawn splines, but lord it would take a while.

I can shoot you a file if you private message me your email, but I don’t know if it will help much if you are missing the mograph module. The mograph module is definitely worth it’s money IMO. I use it all the time for…wait for it…motion graphics. 🙂

We still experience this problem as well, and we are using 1080p footage. I really do not think it’s an issue with our footage, and the only way we can get around the issue is by restarting after effects.

However, SOMETIMES simply adjusting the work region will fix the issue on OS X. It’s totally random though, and sometimes is does nothing.

We are using CS3 on XP Pro, and OS X. Any other tips?

I agree with David on this, and I think you are wrong Maik.

    🙂

looks VERY hand drawn to me. If not hand drawn I wouldn’t be surprised if he used the same techniques 2d cel animators use. Draw a few frames and loop those suckers, or just keep your lines loose when drawing each frame sequentially, and intentionally try to NOT be precise.

  • Now that I think about it, it did not feature Brian Williams at the beginning. That was a news only, promo that they aired, and I found it already.

I believe they even had one of the feathers from the peacock NBC logo, flying around as though it was a mouse pointer.

    Anyone?
