The Network drivers and OS treat the data differently between network volumes and Direct Attached volumes. There are several differences which mostly revolve around latency. Latency and throughput are different. You can have a network that pushes a 1GB/s a sec however if the latency is to high the playback will still interrupt. If you have software layers for file writing that allow multiple access then that will also add latency to the data stream. Davinci ram previews so when you first hit play Davinci’s player is building buffers into the ram. Once the buffers are built then the preview will be seemless because the network latency is no longer involved. The Data is local. That is why it stops at each clip when you first start playback and then will play fine the next time.
