CS4 came out last October, so you’ve got quite awhile before CS5 comes out – most likely next year.

February 24, 2009 at 8:20 am in reply to: Any advice on returning to CS3? Can I just uninstall CS4 or do I need to reinstall whole operating system?Hey Todd –
Sorry to hear about that. I’ve got CS4 running great on 2 HP systems – a workstation and a laptop.
You should be able to uninstall CS4 and then install CS3, but I would really recommend do a fresh OS install. Also, I would check this out as well :

First off, make sure you’ve updated all the software – PPro to version 3.2. Also, I notice you’re running Vista 64. I’ve heard of others having issues with CS3 and Vista 64. If you can run it on Vista 64, or even good old XP, you may find a better experience. I know that CS4 is set up to run better on Vista 64, but not CS3.

I have very few crashes with my workstation. And as for DL, it works much better with Vista 64 – I can bounce back and forth with much ease now then in CS3 and XP 32.

Leo – we’ve got CS4 running on an HP 8400 with dual quad core xeons, 6GB of RAM, and Vista 64. It cuts SD and HDV without breaking a sweat, and XDCAM HD is no problem too. AVCHD with PPro CS4 does slow things down a bit, but not so much that we can’t work with it…which isn’t that often so far.
Dean – I’d say you have something there that’s causing the slow down – some sort of conflict or hardware setup. What kind of hard drives do you have, and how many? What kind of footage are you trying to cut?
What are you trying to export?
FCP is a great system, but trust me – it has it’s own set of problems. Check over in the FCP forum and have a peak…

Leo – I cut with an HP workstation and it’s great. I would really recommend it.

You’ll only find OMF support in CS4.

I believe I read/heard that support for AVC-I will be forth coming in a future update…but don’t hold me to that.

November 18, 2008 at 11:34 pm in reply to: XDCAM Ex Footage Imported into FCP won’t play or Import into PP CS3If you can access the files from the card itself – the files in the BPAV folder, those should import into PPro CS3.2. Just import in the whole folder, skip past the error message, and they should show up in your bin.
I don’t think you’ll be able to use the files that FCP produced from the originals.

As for the lack off AAF support in the release version, I would rather them leave out a feature that’s still being improved, then include one that half works. And was there ever a version that had “single click save stills” – as far back as I remember (Premiere 5),it’s always been a few clicks to save stills.
I haven’t seen any HDV or AVCHD sync issues, but to be fair, I haven’t had any projects using that footage since CS4 came out. CS3 had some HDV issues, and from what little I’ve played with in CS4 regarding HDV, all seems well. I read the soon to be released patch will include some HDV improvements. And as for AVCHD, it’s a beast of a format to edit with. I’ve found that on my workstation it plays back pretty well, with an occassional little hiccup. I’ve read that some people are having no problems with it at all, so maybe it’s just a system thing.
XML to Final cut doesn’t work because it wasn’t included in the intial release…it’ll be included in the new patch, as will OMF and Edit to Audition. Again, I’m glad Adobe waited to get these features right, rather then rush them out full of bugs, just to meet the release deadline. If they had done that, you’d probably be complaining about how they don’t work as well.
As I said in the previous post, the 24p issue, in my mind is a little one. It will work as it used to, but for now, a couple extra mouse clicks isn’t going to kill me.
I’ve been using CS4 for almost a month now, and I’ve done quite a few projects with it, all with no problems. And the fact that Adobe is getting a patch out a month or so after release is pretty good – they aren’t usually that fast.
