A huge disappointment? Come on – that’s a bit of an over statement. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I have to disagree with that. I think it’s a great version.

I’m curious to know how you think it’s “…screwed a lot of regular editors…”? I know you have an issue with the current (and temporary) way it handles 24P footage, but outside that what do you base that opinion on?

“But when I watch PP booting in the video it’s 4.0.0”

Well, remember one thing – Kevin works for Adobe. I’m sure he might have some special version.

That ability will be something that comes later this month with the 4.0.1 update.

It’s running great for me with Vista 64. I did have a few small odd things pop up when opening up a CS3 project in it, but everything else seems fine.

Premiere Pro CS4 is now shipping, but the trial version has yet to post. The way CS3 handles XDCAM EX files is really great, and it looks like they made some improvements in dealing with that format in CS4. I think FCP is good, but I’d give PPro CS4 a look before you decide.

Well, those of us eagerly waiting on our CS4 to arrive (hopefully this coming week) can share how much we like it when it gets here…I personally think it looks tremendous – I use DL all the time, and the enhancements to that look very nice, being able to import just the PPro project into Encore and Soundbooth ( I wish it was Audition too though) without rendering a file is a welcome new feature, and the new batch rendering…an answered prayer. And as someone who use On Location quite a bit, the new version looks like it has some very nice new features.

As a long time PPro user, I can’t remember being this excited about a release.

    “I know its bloody annoying”

Quite right…I take some small comfort knowing I’m not alone in this.

I’ve posted both here and on the Adobe Encore forum, so hopefully someone will have some insight. But after doing a lot of research from people having similiar issues, it’s looking like uninstall everything, the reinstall it…or just wait for CS4.

“HOWEVER – it was also missing basic features like displaying a thumbnail in the bin in list view. That alone kills my workflow.”

Click the Icon view button in the bottom left of the project panel – thumbnail view for all the clips in the bin.

    Chris –

Well, I guess it’s time you gave Premiere Pro CS4 a look since it’s back on the Mac. Trust me – it’s not at all what it once was…oh, thank God for that!

Even if you don’t want it for your everyday editor, it still has some feaures that you can’t get anywhere else.

Come on, Chris – let the resentment go….give it chance!

I think part of the problem for Adobe is most editors have this really bad Premiere hang over from the old days (anyone remember Premiere 4 or 5?), and just don’t want to even think about using it. They have Avid or FCP and they’re happy. But I really think if they saw what PPro’s like now, and played with it, things could change.

Adobe really has to reach that audience that lost faith in Premiere a long time ago. CS4 looks like a big step in trying to do just that.
