Did you open the VOB file in mpeg streamclip? You’ll need to poke around a bit, as there are often several VOBs, and you need to find the one you need. Once open, it’s a simple export operation, choose your codec, and you’re off.

All of the above will give you the option of transcoding into various formats. In your case, you will want to create a DV quicktime, and import that into FCP as you would any other media.

And yes, audio will be there too.

You could digitise that way, or I tend to use mpeg streamclip from Squared5 – Pretty easy to find with a Google search.

And it’s free.

Paolom,

the system settings are in the Application Menus. The “Easy Setups” take the brainwork out of settings – thery are settings templates.

Have you read thru the manual? You’ll probably be OK for most things coming from an Avid, but this sort of stuff is the nuts and bolts in the first few chapters that will save you a lot of these headaches if you go in armed with the knowledge…

Unless I am doing some FX work and I need to get in close, I usually leave both my window settings to “Fit To Window”. That way FCP will scale to your window size regardless of aspect. It will also re-scale if you resize your windows.
