If you right-click on any point of the Blocker and choose Properties, you can check the box that says “use layers below for bg image”. That should show the BG image.

If you choose an image type as your output format when rendering rather than AVI, the animation will be exported as an image sequence.

You can’t fade out a layer’s visibility, if you mean the background footage. The best way to accomplish this would be to create the particle portion of the effect, hide the background, render the particles out and then bring them into your editing program.
In there, you can fade the person out as the particles appear.

November 1, 2007 at 7:10 pm in reply to: Making an image appear to move in water or a drop of water. How?You can create this type of effect using Get Color from Layer, it’s really just a variation on the Distintegrating a Person tutorial that you can look through here. You’re duplicating the image with particles, then moving them away to dissolve the image.

It’s mostly likely a codec thing. If you render an SD clip to that same codec, does it crash too? That’d be one way to check.
You have to pick a codec that supports alpha when rendering, otherwise it won’t be an option. The resolution shouldn’t affect it. Uncompressed, Huffy or Lagarith are the codecs that will support an AVI with alpha. You can grab the latter two off the net, much smaller than uncompressed.

October 29, 2007 at 4:38 pm in reply to: Particleillusion SE, can’t hear Audio to time effects or output with soundThere’s no way to play back the audio within pI, it just doesn’t do it. The best way in such a situation would be to jot down your start and end times for each muzzle flash based on what they are in your editing program, and using that as a guide.
But you should be able to output sound with it. The only reason the “Use Audio From Layer” box wouldn’t be checkable would be if the AVI that you used as your background didn’t have audio to begin with.

Have you gone into the clip’s setting by right-clicking on it in Vegas and checking what the Alpha Channel option is set to? Vegas doesn’t default to using the likeliest option, and you’ll have to select it from the menu.
