I consider those super fantastic workflow enhancements, not fun to play with features.

3.02 was just released and while it doesn’t have any major feature changes, it’s fixed a ton of little problems. Alan just mentioned in another thread that 3.5 will be out in a few months, probably by NAB in April.

If you render it as a Quicktime with compression set to None, and change Color Depth to “Millions of Colors+”, you should be able to save a Quicktime with alpha.

It could be a video card issue. My ATI card didn’t support it in version 3.01, but does in 3.02 after Alan fixed some things.
If you go into View>Preferences, then look in the OpenGL Driver Information area of the Open GL tag, what does it say for the Accumulation Buffer?

You’ll see in my tutorial that I suggest always exporting from Vegas as 32 bit. There’s no reason not to, other than that it makes the file size a bit bigger, since you can just turn off transparency information if you don’t want it. There’s just some flag that Vegas doesn’t seem to write in the 24 that it does in the 32 that makes the clips display in pI.

There’s no way to fade a background up in pI, you’d have to do it in Vegas before exporting.
There’s a bit in this tutorial on how to export uncompressed AVI from Vegas. Make sure you have no video tracks below the one that has transparency in it before you export.

There’s a post by Alan a few days ago that talks about an extension on the latest SE to 3.0 upgrade sale, good until tomorrow.

Did you bring it into Ultra, pull the key, and then you still see the green in pI? Make sure when saving it out of Ultra, you use either Uncompressed as the codec, or install the Huffy UV or Lagarith codecs, which are lossless codecs that support alpha channels, and make for much smaller file sizes than using uncompressed.
If you do all that and pI still isn’t recognizing the alpha channel, right-click on the layer that the background image is loaded onto, select the Transparency option, and make sure that Use Existing Image Transparency is selected.

No, SE is lacking both layers and Blocker objects, making masking a difficult task. You’d have to do any masking in an editor or compositor.

I used After Effects, but Ultra should be perfect for it, and your clip may be fine and contain an alpha as it says. The issue is that the version of particleIllusion currently available doesn’t support AVIs with Alpha channels. That will all change when the free upgrade to 3.02 is released very soon, it supports AVIs with alpha.
I don’t know if Ultra can export PNG or TIF sequences, which is what you’d need before the update is released. Vegas can do PNGs with a script, but I don’t know if they contain alphas or not.
