When rendering to an image sequence or uncompressed Quicktime, just make sure to check the Save Alpha box in the Output Options window. A lot of the options are explained in this tutorial, which is for After Effects but should still help you understand the various options.

I had managed to do this when someone asked a similar question at NAB by reducing the particle’s Bounce and using a Deflector. I haven’t been able to remember exactly how I did it because the particles need a certain amount of Bounce to stick to the deflector, but I think if you reduce the Velocity after the point which they hit, they’ll hit and stay still.

May 5, 2007 at 4:50 pm in reply to: Evaluating PI SE demo, getting distorted background image…?I’d first suggest getting the latest certified drivers from the ATI site to rule out any video card conflicts. BlazeMediaPro is supposed to allow you to create a sequence of images from a video clip, so you may want to try converting the mpeg into a sequence of PNG or JPGs to see if that works.

From the FAQ:
Can I save an AVI with an alpha channel?
No. particleIllusion (SE and 3.0 versions) does not support 32 bit AVIs. To create an alpha channel in your final output, render to a sequence of images, such as PNG, or TGA. All video editing software can load an image sequence and treat it just like an AVI.—

What version of the software are you using? Some of the options in the Background Images options used in the tutorial were only added in 3.01, which is available as an update on the wondertouch website.

That was just a simple modification of the laser beam emitters that are available in this library I think.

I have not heard of a problem importing any Quicktime files on a Mac. What codec is the Quicktime compressed with, that would be the most likely culprit if some Quicktimes work and others don’t.

The playback control bar has three boxes with numbers in them. The first is the Current frame, and the next two set the range of the scene. There’s a Loop button between those two boxes, and when it’s pressed down, the scene will loop between those two frame numbers.
