Paul, Thank you for your response. I have AE 9.0. I did Disk Utility as well as trashing my preferences. Neither helped the problem. I will check out the links you sent. Thanks.

Well I turned off one of my lights and it looks like it might work. I’ll know in 6 hours. But while I’m here can anyone direct me to where I can learn about the best preference settings to get the most out of AE?

When I try to do this, it initially slows the footage down to up to where I put the new key frame, but then as it regains speed after the new keyframe it ends up going faster and faster bypassing the speed of the original footage. What am I doing wrong?

Well I got it to work by making it a new file and deleting all the layers that I didn’t want then exporting to quicktime. Now it’s crisp. Don’t know why the other didn’t work, but for the time being the hurdle has been jumped.

wow lots of excellent ideas! now if i could just get motion to quit crashing, i’d be rolling in those leaves.

Well the way I’ve avoided it so far is to dolly in above the ground before they hit, but this isn’t really what I want to do. So I guess the question is how to tell particles where the ground is? Any ideas? Or maybe it’s not possible. Maybe I should use the replicator and figure out the stop position in the replicated layer.

I have this problem too. It’s very frustrating. I have a zillion layers of oscillating branches on a tree. When I try to render all the branches with a dolly in, I get the orange blocks. If I break the project down into about 4 different renders, then start a new file with movs I can make it work, but then I run into a different set of problems. I’m going to switch to After Effects and see if I can work in it with more ease. I love Motion, but I run into so many problems with it quitting or not rendering that it’s driving me nuts.

Yes that makes sense, but it’s a little disappointing. I was hoping they were friendlier, so I could easily go back and forth and not bother with the movie export. Oh well.

Somebody (claiming expertise) told me it was better to always render from Motion via compressor, but you know what? I just tried rendering using the export function in Motion without compressor and it was perfect. So I guess that solves that. Thanks.
