I need to be enlightened. There has to be an easy way to do this. I’m making a little animation creating most of it in Motion 3. I want to take it over to Finalcut to do some additional editing. My question is, is there an easy way that finalcut can just pick up the audio/video settings from Motion? I can’t seem to make them match which means I have to constantly render. It’s driving me crazy. I always have the red bar. My Motion projects are 1920 x 1080, pixel aspect ratio: square, field dominance: none, 23.98 fps. I try to do all the same settings in FCP, then import the Motion project. but I still get the red render bars. What’s the problem?

If you import a motion project, FCP will still need to render that project. If you export a Quicktime out of Motion that matches your FCP editing sequence, FCP can play that in real time.

    Make sense?

Yes that makes sense, but it’s a little disappointing. I was hoping they were friendlier, so I could easily go back and forth and not bother with the movie export. Oh well.

Well, think about it. When you import a Motion project, you haven’t done any rendering of your material and FCP can’t playback that amount of data in real time. When you bring in a QT movie, that movie is rendered, flattened, and optimized for rt playback.
