Nicholas,
There is a filter that Brendan Gibbons created that you may download, and it will probably do what you need.

Simon, thanks for your response and offer to be helpful (as you have certainly been in the past).
I think I can handle this “smooth”ing key-frame lack in some other way… (export clips and deal with them outside FCP X). I agree that it would be very nice to have that capability with most, if not all, animation keyframes, and I have made a suggestion to Apple’s “suggestion box”.
Thanks again,

Hi Simon,
I was playing around with the “Adjustable Frame” effect… is there a way to ease-in/ease-out when key framing, say, a change of size? Or, can that be added? (I notice there is no ease, or smooth, option in the transform when doing a scale change).
Thanks,
Eli

July 27, 2011 at 11:03 pm in reply to: Question re 64 vs 32 bit performance with Lion…Also, the “real” question I had is:
When I boot into Lion in 32 bit mode (holding the “3” and “2” keys down at startup), I seem to get better performance in Lion than when booting in the default 64 bit mode (you can tell if you are in 32 or 64 bit mode by doing “About This Mac…” in the Apple Menu, then “More Info…” in the window that pops up, then click on “System Report” then select the “Software” tab).
I am wondering if other people get the same results that I am getting–less stuttering and fewer dropped frames in 32 bit mode than in 64 in Lion?
Thanks,
Eli -
Really useful… At the risk of being repetitious, thank you!!

July 27, 2011 at 6:18 am in reply to: Time requirements & Marker limitations, any ideas? Why not place a color solid at the 26:46 point (to get there, you will have to create a 26:45 piece of slug: insert slug; Control-D [duration] to set the slug duration, then insert the color solid or “whatever”).
Unfortunately, you cannot place the slug above the Primary Storyline, so when you edit, you can do all your editing as a Secondary Storyline. Also, it’s unfortunate that you cannot just place the color solid (shot) at the 26:46 position, without having slug before it on the timeline.
The other option is to just watch the time indicator on the Project Timeline–it’s in a very prominent place.
Other ideas, anyone?

July 26, 2011 at 9:17 pm in reply to: Slip the clip, but keep the audio keyframes in place, how?It seems a logical tossup if the audio keyframes should move or not when you slip a clip. They “should” move, if the level change is associated with a particular requirement within the clip (like a loud sound that has to be lowered). On the other hand, if you are, let’s say, lowering the level because of a relationship with another track, the audio levels “should” not move. Perhaps there should be a switch, like option-slip to keep keyframes put.
I agree that it is a “bug” or a design flaw that the copy/paste effect doesn’t copy/paste the keyframes (we did have that capability in FCP 7, as well as choosing which effect to paste…). Another suggestion to Apple.

Simon, that’s a very nice addition–the OSC of the position; thank you. I can see your point, though, of not having the numerical control and feedback (to be able to set several adjusted frames in a row that duplicate each others’ positions (but that can be gotten around by doing copy/paste-effect action). (Life is a series of compromises).
Thanks again for your contributions and for your help; they are greatly appreciated.
Best,

Absolutely… Thanks to everyone who is kind enough to share your ingenuity and inventive good spirit.
I am finding many of these filters to be useful and inspiring to think of further possibilities on a project I am working on. Many of these filters make certain processes much easier than they were in FCP 7, in my opinion.
I am also really enjoying the helpful and enthusiastic tone of this site (especially compared to that “other” site).
Best,

Thanks for looking into it, Simon. Would OSC for just position on the screen and size of the frame work, not for controlling the image inside the frame? (And as is, it’s really useful).
