A simple FCP X GENERATOR preset, using motion’s strobe behaviour to give you access to the strobing effect in FCP X

FCP X Generator: BG Just Strobe it!

This effect has been done as a generator, because I have found a way to publish the retiming behaviours to FCP using the EFFECT option, but it crashes FCP on demand every time.

Though Generators are not an ideal solution it appears to work.

Use at your own risk though because according to apple these retiming behaviours can’t be published to FCP X. Wrong!

    Apple 0 v Brendan 1

    – Select the Generator tab to access published parameters
    – Click image well to select your source clip
    – Strobe frame duration controls.
    – Optional luminance flicker controls to enhance the strobe effect

Drop the folder “BG Just Strobe it!” inside this zip into the following directory:

Movies / Motion Templates / Generators / BG Generators /

Full Install instructions included in README inside the zip file.

    Cheers,

    BG

So…is this like the Blink filter from FCP past?

Not like the blink filter this one.

You tell it how many frames to hold the motion.

Some call it a frame update.

Set it 5, it holds frame 1 for 5frames, then it holds frame 6 for 5 frames, then frame 11 for 5 frames….etc

    Cheers,

    Brendan

This filter preset from a few days ago does the same as what the blink filter in FCP 7 does.

Stack up 2 layers of video, apply preset to top layer, and adjust rate to suit.

Glad it was of use to you 🙂

As you are probably aware, drop zones in generators seem to be a bit problematic at times.

I have noticed quite often when you select the dropzone, and the box comes up prompting you to choose a source…it can freeze quite often.

All together now … “Bring back ‘send to motion’ please”

    Cheers,

    BG

Hi, i donw loaded it but i cant use it. I past it on the clip and it inserts or replaces. I cant find the generator controls you speak of. Sorry to be such a novice but from the information in your pack i just cant find out how to apply this effect to aclip. I see it in generators but cant do anything with it. Could you explain how to use it and also show a screen shot of where you got your screen shot of the generator controls from. Thanks
