    thank you tony,

evidently the more $ APC models have power conditioning in addition to the UPS abilities… i got a 1500VA that will do the trick until i can afford to add either the furman or one of the all-in-one APC models.

right now i’m just breathing a sigh of relief that my G5 & hard drives are on UPS! i will begin with raid 0 (backing via FW800) soon, so life is OK… until i can upgrade!

thank you again & all the best!

    moody-

this is a good sign… i just purchased that exact APC model for my system. i’m going to set it up exactly as you mentioned. i was definitely thinking of getting the rack-mounted $600 version, but the VA on the 1500 is sufficient.

thank you for the info and all the best,

thank you for the replies… jokes included!

the reason for backing up the mixer, audio monitors, etc is the building i work in is subject to brown-outs, sometimes pretty good ones. so i wanted to put as much of what i’m using on a UPS; however, when i did the VA math, it turned out to be some astronimical number that ended-up telling me that i was needing a UPS that could back-up an airport 😉

since the dollar differences are so huge, the avenue is to UPS just the necessities. i’m gonna hit the compusa or competitor and get a good size UPS. but i probably won’t get it shipped via United Parcel Service 😉

thank you for the help to all!

first, thank you tony & david…

secondly, this forum is the best of the cow! not that the other forums aren’t great, it’s just that on the FCP forum you get good answers quickly! not too mention, rarely do i need to post because searching the archives answers 99.9% of my questions.

    thank you again!

it’s drop-frame, though the producers that use it wouldn’t know the difference. tv stations have been using a program like this for decades. it’s not complicated, just bulletproof for deadline live tv production. there’s really not much of a market for it unless you have large $’s i suppose.

thanks for the inquiry and the help.

unfortunately it’s not a countdown, it’s for show timing.

if a show is supposed to be 30-minutes w/3 internal breaks of two minutes plus a terminal break of 2 minutes, then the show has 22-minutes of actual content in 4 segments. since content isn’t finite each segment varies in length but they must total to 22-minutes in the end.

so the program starts at 30-minutes and each break & segment begins subtracting from the 30-minutes until it reaches “0.”

it’s like a bulletproof excel sheet with jpegs being able to be shot around. show producers can slaughter an excel sheet. boy, i wish it were as simple as a countdown!

    anyone, anyone?? — bueller?

get the nattress… it’s really done well. it has good functional presets ready to go and enough ways to customize your own look from scratch or by tweaking the presets. if you need more, just go ahead and shoot film!
