It could definitely be scripted. I haven’t seen anything that does that *exact* task but I have some that are close and have seen others that are close. Remember, you really need TWO points between each event.

Also, remember you can lower volume on an event by event basis by moving the mouse to the top edge of the event (it will turn into a hand), click, and drag down to lower the volume. If necessary, you could raise the volume on the track header and then lower the individual events as needed. Not necessarily the approach I would take but is another option.

Auto Save is installed when you install Excalibur. It’s free and will work perfectly fine with the Excalibur demo even after the demo expires. There were a couple of bad links there, though. These have been fixed.

DVDs are MPEG2. You definitely do NOT want to go through WMV to get to a DVD.

Not all DVD players are equal. Some can play just about anything you stick in it. Others aren’t so good. Some can do -R, some can do +R, some can do both but maybe not equally.

Also, not all DVD media is equal. Some media is better than others. Memorex is usually not listed in the “top media” lists.

A couple things you can try:
1. Try -r instead of +r
2. Try a different brand of media. TY is generally touted as the best. I’ve had good success with Verbatim.

If you’re using Vegas Pro 8, you can use my Auto Save custom command which will let you specify how much time there is between saves. It will also give you a series of backup files with the date/time appended to the filename as well.

Note that even though the “proper codec is installed” – that doesn’t mean a “codec Vegas can use” is installed. There are different types of codecs. Vegas requires a “Video for Windows” codec. You may have a “DirectX” codec installed.

Remember that “AVI” is a file type! It’s not a video format and can hold MANY different types of video formats from uncompressed to DV (standard that is captured from MiniDV cameras) to more esoteric formats like DivX and XVid.

Many people have gotten DivX/XVid clips to work in Vegas but it is not a supported format. In order to work in Vegas, you need to have the proper “VfW” codec installed that will support those formats. Or, as recommended, convert them into something Vegas does easily read.

However, I definitely would not convert them to WMV or some other highly compressed format. From whatever program you’re using to convert them, try converting to DV-AVI instead. That should work well for you. DV is about 13Gig/hour so it will be larger than your original files but Vegas loves working with DV.

24fps is the standard for films in the US. 25fps is standard PAL. These are two different formats. You can render from 25 to 24 but you’ll need to test to confirm you like the results. Should work fine, though. Depending on your target audience, you may want to stick with 25.

If you’re making a DVD, you’ll also need DVD Architect in addition to Vegas and Cinescore.

Vegas can easily do color correction. In fact it is VERY good at it. The PRO version has more features than the Movie Studio versions.

It can also do stabilzation but requires external products. Mercalli is good and there’s a free method using scripts and VirtualDub.

Vegas offers real-time previews but the quality settings for preview can look “soft” depending on the settings you’re using. If you use Preview (Auto) it will compromise the frame more to give you a higher framerate. If you up it to “Good” or “Best”, the picture will clear up but the framerate will drop.

Unless you’re resizing the images/photos, stick with “Good”. If you are using photos or resizing video, use “Best”.

Sounds like you’re going from Vegas Pro 8.0b to Vegas Movie Studio 8.0d. Movie Studio is the “little brother” to the pro version and doesn’t have as many features.
