For multi-cam editing, look at Vol 1 #9 of my newsletters (link below my name) to see multiple means of editing multi-cam projects. If you are doing it manually, you really should look at using a script as it simplifies the process tremendously.
My immediate suggestion for you would be to use a MASTER track. Copy the segments you want to keep up to a master track. Now when you want to see the PIP’d view, simply mute the Master track.

When rendering to AC3 format, the volume will be automatically reduced. If you wish to prevent this from happening, make the following setting changes:
Change the dialog normalization to -31
On the PreProcessing tab, change both the Line mode profile and RF mode profile to NONE.

You have to move the event’s “Start” position and then adjust the take’s “Offset” appropriately.

ALL users of Excalibur 4.x. It updates the Vegas 5 version as well. The only “feature” you won’t have is the live switching in Multi-cam. But, yes, it is for Vegas 5.0b or newer users too.

When setting up my system, the “Collapse Loop-region” is one of the first things I uncheck. I don’t mind having loop regions when I want them but want to be able to make them easily go away (i.e. with a single click).

Please update to Vegas 6.0b if you have not done so. Also, please make sure you deck is set to output the format you desire (HDV or DVCAM are both possible). When you invoke “Capture Video” you’ll be asked to choose a source format, and from there you should be able to connect to the Z1-1.
You are strongly encouraged to use WinXP SP2 if you are working with a Sony HDV camera or deck (in any HDV-capable software, ours or not). HDV file read, write, transcode, project templates, field handling, etc is all doable in Win2k and pre-SP2 XP using Vegas 6, but getting Windows to load the camera/deck driver (assuming you can get it to load at all) can be a nightmare. HDV driver loading in XPSP2 is automatic, no manual fiddling (usually).

First thing: Are you on 6.0b?
Out of curiosity, try changing the opacity level of that track to 99% and see if there’s any difference.
