Yes you can if you have a G5. First connect the optical out from G5 to the IO. In the IO control panel go to input and for audio select SPDIF. Open the Audio MIDI setup and select Digital for your output. Make sure you do all this before you open Soundtrack Pro then open Soundtrack Pro and you should be hearing your audio via the IO…Ed

I haven’t had green flashes but I’ve had flashes and then lose video out from the Io but sound still worked. Turned out to be digidesign’s core audio software not being compatiable with Tiger. It was only a fluke that we figured this out. AJA was getting ready to send me another Io. So what I’m saying is if there is anything that gets loaded on start-up and is not Tiger compliant its any bodys guess on what it can cause. Hope this helps.

You might want to download the firmware update first and install it and then do the control panel.
I’m running exact same sys as you are and no problems but I did install it under 10.4.1. Hope this helps….Ed -
