Did Aja forget about IO?
Posted by Jadranko Gudan on April 13, 2005 at 2:12 pmWell, it looks to me as they did.
We have original IO since septemeber 2003 and never had any problems with it, but I remember several of Aja’s promisses:
– IO control panel
– more then 2 channels of audio (I know that this is QuickTime problem, but from what I see now I doubt that we are going to see drivers for QT7)
…Last version of driver was released about 7 months ago and latest firmware that was released fixed several problems that I’ve heard about only on LA/LD versions.
As far as I can see Kona2 is now in Aja’s focus and IO looks like a disscontinued product to me.
Please, correct me if I am wrong.
I dare you.

April 13, 2005 at 4:10 pmHi-
Io is not a discontinued product! It is still our flagship product line!
Please keep in mind that Apple develops the drivers for Io, which means we have a very tight integration with everything they do. This is reason that the Io concept exists at all, as the technology to transmit 10-bit uncompressed data over Firewire 400 is theirs.
Do not despair…I promise you 😉

April 14, 2005 at 2:02 amI think we should hold these comments until after this coming Monday. If there aren’t some big announcements at NAB I will be at there booth asking why. But I think something is going to be announced at NAB.

April 14, 2005 at 4:57 ami am waiting for the control panel too, but it was announced after i got an IO folks–at last years NAB. if you bought the IO back in the day, you really can’t complain about a later control panel since it was never promised to you when you threw down the credit card or emptied that big jar of pennies!

April 14, 2005 at 3:55 pmWell, I got my IO *after* the control panel was announced. And I think it’s perfectly legitimate to bring it up days before NAB. It’s AJA who’s been promising but not delivering for all this time. The least they can do is answer the question “what happened? where is it?”
EdIf you do a search in the archives about it, it’s kind of comical to see the “AJA told me next month” posts in May, July, September, December. This from the AJA sales dept. in February “Now, Io and Io LA users can record from most unstable analog signals that previously would not be accepted. This firmware release is also the first step towards the long-awaited Io Control Panel, which is in final development and should be available very, very soon! (more in the next few weeks as we approach it

April 14, 2005 at 7:45 pmPerhaps I’m just too damn old, but…I for one am eternally grateful to AJA for making a piece of gear that just works, costs essentially nothing (I come from the days of big iron) and has great customer service. My $10,000 FCP suite kicks the hell out of any other suite I’ve ever owned (some costing upwards $500,000) and that is in no small measure due to the wonder of the AJA i/o. Just one person’s opinion.

April 14, 2005 at 10:35 pmNo argument there. I’ve said in a lot of places, including this forum, that AJA has the best Customer Support. Notice that the half answer came from their Sales Department. I’ve always kind of thought the “why you young pups don’t know how lucky you are. When I was your age I walked through 3 feet of snow to get to my studio, where I had $500,000 worth of equipment that couldn’t do half of what your little $1,000 set up can do. So quit your whining” kind of comments were silly, when the point is often not what something cost, but simply what’s being promised and what’s being delivered. I personally didn’t buy my IO because of the promised Control Panel. It’s a great product without it. My comments are more about not promising (again and again) what you don’t deliver.
Ed, who is too damn old too 🙂[Mark Tyson] “Perhaps I’m just too damn old, but…I for one am eternally grateful to AJA for making a piece of gear that just works, costs essentially nothing (I come from the days of big iron) and has great customer service. April 15, 2005 at 5:23 ami hear you. but it is far, far. farless worse to not deliver just yet what is not ready for prime time. there are other manufacters who would have had an embarassing moment of shipping product that never worked– if they had shame! test it, test it, test it and then ship it! stability is the best feature–ask anyone missing this feature!
anyhow, happy NAB everybody…
