actually. you need to IMPORT afresh. as re-import won’t be offered.
and as mentioned on the link I posted, prior to that you need to delete the event file from the fcpx event by ctrl clicking itin case anyone stumbles on this.
thanks for your input
job done now.

hi jeff
thanks for your reply.
good idea to try moving everything to another drive – i did this overnight last night
however unfortunately it moved the issue with it(!) – which i too thought it would not
HOWEVER…
today thru another issue which is common, i found a solution for the original problem (they are related)…
i couldn’t export the project from fcp x (everything was greyed out)
i found a thread on macrumours…
forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1199680basically i went to every clip in my project and clicked once on it, then: SHIFT+F to reveal in the event browser. if the clip shows with a small camera icon on the far left, it means it’s not connected.
you then contrl click the clip name having noted or memorised its details (like card number and time of day) and MOVE TO TRASH
(note: you do not lose your logging settings like in/out, favourite, keywords etc)THEN, go to FILE>IMPORT>MEDIA and locate the original camera file (found in the folder you originally backed up all the cards/media to, before importing to FCPX)
this will now be properly linked
lastly…
weirdly, when i’d done this with some 20 clips and tried to EXPORT, it was still GREYED… so i quite FCPX and re-launched, not very optimistically, and everything was cool
hope this helps someone else

thanks both
tired eyes. the png did import but was buried in the event viewer list. my bad. saw it there this morning
good advice on proper conversion tho.
better than using free web converters…
thanks again

May 4, 2013 at 1:37 am in reply to: omf files from fcp7 create error message in sountrack prothanks for this – and yes, you are right of course.
at first we were on different machines which is why we were doing that. but then we got a general error trying to work with fcp and stp together…

hi all
thanks for all your comments
so it looks like we will gor for this:
exporting from fcp7 at original settings (prores etc)
use latest version of compressor (4.0.7) to make
an mp4 file that’s h264
with youtube’s highest acceptable bit rate (50000kb!)
at full 1920×1080. (which is client specification, though point-taken about 720, thanks).
with AAC stereo audio at appropriate bit rate as per YT guidelines.(linked above in my first post)now it’s just a question of whether to use either of these compressor streaming options:
fast start
or
fast start – compressed headerlarry jordan’s clip doesn’t say to do this.
doesn’t YT make this happen anyway? when they re-compress (AS THEY DO!) ?
OR…
is it better to do it in compressor ourselves so YT has less work to do?– anyone work at google/YT??
we aim to test both on private YT links but upload times are long!
thanks

June 20, 2012 at 5:08 pm in reply to: keeping h264 (5d original media) AND prores (high quality transcoded) files????thanks for all these responses
my system spec is:
macbook pro 15 inch late 2011
2.5ghz intel core i7
8gb 1333 mhz ddr3
intel hd graphics 3000 512mb
mac os x lion 10.7.4latest fcpx including most recent updates
thoughts welcome!
thanks

nice one
clever workaround
one other thing – is there much point keeping original (canon 5d h264) media, if you have had fcpx create optimized media (prores in ‘high quality media’ folder plus smaller ones in ‘proxy media’ folder).
i will be finishing the project entirely in fcpx so i imagine these original camera files are quite literally a waste of space….?

thanks jason
in terms of being portable, working anywhere… without using additional power packs…
is something like this:
https://store.apple.com/uk/product/H7433Z/A/western-digital-1tb-my-passport-studio-portable-hard-drive?n=portable&fnode=MTY1NDA0Nw&s=topSellers#tech-specs
going to be as fast better/worse than using the onboard hard drive?ed
