I must have a notebook, permanent traveller.

I have a mbp17 now with a lot of projects and materials. I fear crossing over to a pc from a compatibility standpoint (not a hater of pc)

I edit avchd 1080p video less than 15 minutes in length and usually less than 5 min. Occasionally use simple AE templates. So my editing is not overly sophisticated.

So whu should I avoid a mbp and what is the option?

Yea, wont be surprised at that. If 70 to 90 percent crosses over that will get me well into the project.

    Thnx

No answer to one of my questions…

Will I need an external scratch disc with a new mbp? The old school thought was to take some of the seek time away from the computer hd and give it to a separate external drive. No longer necessary? Ports are getting scarce!

And speaking of ports, I have a lot of material on older usb drives. Will they plug and play in the new version of usb or will I need adapters?

I am not in an immediate time crunch so I can wait for adobe to catch up to sierra.

What would be the expected time frame for adobe to synch with sierra?

I will very reluctantly switch to adobe cc, unless I decide to switch to FCP X. My only hesitation there is the re-learning curve.

Now that the specs are out on the new mbp 15, is it that much better than the old one? Should I jump on the last of the existing stock of the old model?

Yea, figured that would be the case.

OK, found it. The preset dropdowns fooled me

Any differences I should be considering between animation & ph jpeg?

    Thnx

“with animation codec”? I don’t find that option in my CS4 media encoder.

“photo jpeg” is also not found in my CS4 media encoder

    I don’t understand your comment.

The Sony Clip Browser software allows adding clip names to the meta data during download from the SxS card to any hard drive. That name is not showing up anywhere in the clip bin of PP. It will show up in the preview after selecting the clip from the clip bin. Other meta data can be displayed in the clip bin such as frame rate, date, clip length, etc. But user added meta data will not display.

so I have to randomly guess at what the clip is and display it on the preview to verify.

this was with windows vista right? You must be mistaken when you said mac. Can’t be such a strange & difficult problem; it’s a mac.

The USB would be limiting if it worked! I tried to “execute” a usb connection and it seems to lock up.
