I’ve always wondered if AE worked like that. Good thing to know, thanks!

[Michael Szalapski] “I love Zaxwerks 3d Invigorator.”

Really? That makes me happy! My stupid c4d friends are always downing it!

[Michael Szalapski] “If your studio wants 3d stuff, they’re going to have to get used to render times being somewhat longer.”

my new motto is gonna be: “the cooler it looks the longer it’ll take to render”

Thanks for the rest of the good advice, lotta stuff I’m going to do differently next time. It’s awesome to find someone else who likes the plugin, no one else I know really uses it. Idk why, personally I think being able to make a 3d look in AE would be like having an ace up your sleeve.

I’ve been where you’ve been and if you want realistic, manipulable, silky smoke (not puffy smoke) you’re going to have to bite the bullet and dl particular. There’s no way around it, at least in my searching. If you decide to download it just do this and add some wind.

Yup, wind is actually an option in the particular settings. Awesome right?

[Dave LaRonde] “Hello again, Eddy, I’m starting to feel like your personal AE consultant!”

lol <3 Well that’s the cool thing about the cow, there are people who really know what they’re talking about!

[Dave LaRonde] “Yipes! I’m surprised you can get anything done!”

I had a feeling 5 GB wasn’t much! I’ve only recently started getting into the mechanics of computers, so I wasn’t 100% sure. Well that tears it, I’m going to tell my boss that if he keeps wanting these fancy projects with smoke particles and 3D objects on the fly I need an upgrade.

[Dave LaRonde] “I find 3D is especially good for animated typography.”

definitely! Type and graphics in 3D are awesome, I’d never question that. I was talking more along the lines of 3D shapes and actual 3D text.

October 25, 2010 at 3:41 pm in reply to: using movs to spped up a render

Wow, I just facepalmed myself so hard that I think I got a concussion. That is SO much simpler and I totally could’ve done it from the start! In fact, b and n are some of my favorite hot keys (right up there with u, i & o)

Dunno why I haven’t been doing it like that, I guess I subconsciously just wanted to do the whole thing in one render. But this works much better cos now I won’t have to risk AE processing the entirety of the layers beneath my movie.

PS: It’s been just about a year since you answered my first AE question (and every silly question I’ve had since) Thanks for all your help Dave! <3 <3 <3!

No i didn’t trim the beneath layers,, I was under the impression AE didn’t process layers not shown on the screen,, was that the issue?

So I wound up doing it by hand,, and honestly it wasn’t all that bad,,

I just set the videos up into a grid really fast by making a line of 10 and duplicating and dragging it till I had a 10×10 square. Then I kf’d the positions, jumped ahead 30 frames and copied and pasted one videos position into another’s at random till they were good and mixed up. All and all pretty easy.
